FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

My recruiter is urging me to go reserves instead of active duty, due to the fact that word on the street is that there will be few if any nurses hired into the active duty nurse corps for fy2014 and that they will call up interested reservists instead of making new accessions... not the plan I had in mind, but I am seriously considering it. I don't know if I can hold out another 6 mos to a year for a decision from up the chain... Ugghh! Anybody else getting this intel?

I haven't heard that. However, I have not spoken with my recruiter in a while. I am not going to contact her until the first week of Dec. Hopefully, God willing, she should know something.

I spoke with my recruiter yesterday and she said there is still no news. No boards until they release the quotas. I also had the opportunity to speak with LCDR that has connections to some people that has/does serve on the DA boards. He told me that the delays are due to the budgeting constraints andorganization shifts within Medicine for the Navy, Army, and Air Force; Some of the original deadline dates for processes affected by funding (to include recruitment into the services) have been delayed until further notice. HAS ANYONE HEARD DIFFERENTLY????????

It has been a year since I started this process and still nothing. I must stay hopeful.

I heard basically the same from my recruiter today. Apparently, there hasn't been any accessions this FY, for anything. He also told me that the rumor is sometime in January the numbers, if there are any, will be released.

I wish the rumors would stop...LoL. Better yet...they should just stop leading us all on. Either you are going to accept DA this FY or not. I spoke with an AF recruiter and he just told me they are not accepting anyone at the time. They will reassess (nursing jargon..LoL) in March. I pray that January will be the month because it would be exactly one year of the process for me. I am a very black or white person, this maybe or maybe not is killing me...LoL.

My recruiter is basically telling me the same thing. No quotas released yet, so they are holding all nursing kits. Just trying to keep busy with work. I doubt they will be releasing any quotas this month. I am thinking we will be rolling into the next year before we hear anything. Best of luck to everyone. Stay positive.

PriorPN,

I totally agree with. All of this at the end of the month is false. It is just a way for the recruiters to keep up holding on. The problem is congress. They need to sit down and come up with a defense budget so we can all move on. They have a lot of qualified nurses in limbo.

I pray that January 2014 will be the month that the recruiters receive some numbers. I know for me...I began this journey January 2013 with all my paperwork complete by April 2013 to be told quotas are met and Oct 2013 is the time. Oct 2013....government shutdown.....left all applicants in limbo. On a positive note...I hope all my future DA had a blessed Christmas and a great new years.

So, my recruiter called me earlier today and told me we had to update everything because my 6 month window was coming up. I asked him what the deal was with the numbers for 2014; he told me that from what he was told, they were to be out in January. Getting my hopes up, I contacted all the people that had to redo my references and update them...

Well, things changed about an hour later. He called me back, after he had spoken with the program manager, and told me that there was going to be an absolute goal of ZERO new nurses when the numbers come out in January, 100% guaranteed(this was said by the program manager to my recruiter). And he asked about next FY, and was told that if the number isn't small, it was going to be zero as well. Things just keep getting better and better.

That really sucks for all of you trying to get I'm the Navy. Sorry to hear that the numbers are that bad.
