FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

Does anyone know what the deal is with the Army and AF? Are they going through the same situation as the Navy?

Not sure about the direct accessions. I do however, have a friend who submitted a packet for Army HSPS and was just recently (this week) accepted. I would think that all branches of the military would be experiencing the same effects from the shutdown but at this point who knows...

Unless they already had boards meet prior to the new FY, like the Navy had in the past.

That may have been the case...

Yes they are. The direct accession for the Army for med surg nurses is less then year by about 75% which almost single digits. My source is someone who helped come up with the numbers.

I will be so excited with these politicians get it together because they are causing the military some eager nurses. I have been praying that despite the government shutdown that the boards are still held and decisions will be made soon.

The military is still at work. Trust me. lol. For much of us it's business as usual, with the idea that we might have to hoard supplies for a bit.

It may just be wishful thinking, but I just read this on foxnews...

On Monday, the government slimdown enters its seventh day with hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed, national parks closed and an array of government services on hold. However, the Obama administration is calling back to work hundreds of thousands of civilian military workers.

Any news? My recruiter has gone MIA since the beginning of the month :(

I haven't heard anything either. Just trying to stay patient...

Just got a quick phone call from my recruiter. He said that nothing has changed. He did state that other programs have released their "numbers" but that across the board the Navy has not released anything as far as nursing is concerned. I must say that my heart felt like it skipped a beat when I saw his name pop up on my caller ID.

Looks like we are being told the same thing. I was looking at the AF thread for 2014, and apparently they had their board and announce their selections on 10/21. I wonder why they seem to have the ball rolling and the Navy has even put numbers out yet.
