FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

We may not have any openings this year for any Nurses. With the government shutdown and plans for cutbacks, we currently have zero goal for graduate Nurses this year. I am sorry. All the kits I have, have been sent up and there are no scheduled boards.

Email from my recruiter...

That would suck if that is the case, but things might change when the shutdown is actually over.

Also, that says just graduate nurses.

I got the same bad news today...goal is zero nurses of any kind for the FY. My recruiter told me that "might" change, but not real likely.

I hope you all are ok. I received a text from my recruiter that all is on hold at this moment. They are waiting for guidance from the program managers. The Air Force didn't accept that many people this year either. All I can say that if it's God's will...it'l happen. I am just staying positive and keeping my skills right.

Lets keep each other informed.

I'm really going stir-crazy not knowing.....I really hope we hear something soon, but my recruiter said we probably wouldn't hear anything about new goals until end of November at the latest, and they won't pick nurses until they have the goals. I have been told over and over that my odds are good as I do have almost a year of experience to others with none and I have a strong BSN GPA also, but if they only pick up 10/15 nurses....what are the odds going to be like? Ugh, just want to know already so I can figure out what I am going to do with the rest of my life career-wise, I don't want to stay in the area I am in, I want to move, but I can't do that until I know what's going on....oh the craziness.

The way I figure it is this is the best opportunity to improve on my skills and achieve more certifications. I have been a nurse for almost 6 years and I am anxious also. The way I look at it that if it is God's will I will make it. There is so much power in your thoughts. Let's stay positive and hopeful.

HRThompson-WoodRN, Where are you from???

I am trying to apply as well. My packet is in and am still waiting. My recruiter told me last week that he has no numbers open yet for this FY14. But now that the shutdown ended, hopefully I can get in. Good luck to all. I'll keep you informed.

Has anyone heard anything lately? I've been trying to keep busy so I would not think about whats going on.

Haven't heard anything yet either. I'm doing the same as you...trying to stay busy and not think about it!

Has anybody heard any other news as of yet?
