Army Nurse Corps Loan Repayment

Hello guys/gals,

This is my first time posting on the site. I must say, nurses like, Pixie RN, have inspired me for years! I have visited this wesbite frequently and it has helped me become a better RN.

My question is about the Army Nurse Corps. I am currently working with my recruiter and was told that there is currently no Loan Repayment or sign on bonuses. Is this true? I was always taught to question your recruiter and get second opinions. Either way I am joining and will continue to improve my 2 mile run in preperation for APFT.

That's probably accurate, but I'm AF not Army. The Army is cutting more than any other branch. The AF still offers both sign-on bonuses and loan repayment. No offense to the Army folks, but why would you join the Army when the AF is still handing-out money? As far as nursing is concerned, the job is pretty much the same in any branch.

Not to say that any branch is easy to get into right now. However, I would certainly recommend that you get the latest scoop from the Navy, Army, and AF healthcare recruiters in your area.

I believe your recruiter! I am part of a Facebook group for female Army officers, and someone posted recently that their loan repayment was canceled - even after it was in their contract! Crazy, right? I am sure the contracts probably have a "subject to funds availability" clause, but geez. They didn't have a retention bonus for me for Reserves either. The Army is broke!

This is so true. I was completely ignorant to the process of joining the army nurse corps. I thought it was a , hey i want to join, sign me up kind of deal. I recently got my CV approval and will be meeting with my recruiter soon to start my medical paper and get my MEPS date. I also met with an AF recruiter, I was dq'd for my leg tats ( oh wells ). My grandfather, uncles, and cousins would not have me join the Navy lol.

I really want to serve and feel as if I would feel a sense of regret 10 years from now if I dont do it now. I would have loved the loan repayment help :-(. That is crazy how they can cancel your loan repayment during service.My recruiter says there is a chance it may return, but they would not know about incentives for FY16 until after june 1st. So fingers crossed!

The Army canceled my AOC specialty course after approving it 3 times recently. I wouldn't count on anything. Did you get an official slot or are you just getting the paperwork together?

Just getting paperwork together. Official apps will be submitted in the fall for FY16, is what I was told. I did a CV and a "super app". My recruiter submitted it to a "consultant" for a CV read. Two days later I got an email saying it was approved, now she wants to meet to fill out my medical questionnaire and schedule my physical ( which Im assuming is MEPS )? Please correct me if I am wrong. This is all new to me.

So you would potentially leave money on the table because of branch specific stigma? That doesn't sound smart to me. I would hear what the Navy recruiter has to say. Nurses generally never see ship duty anyway.

If the leg tattoos were too much for the Air Force, they'd be too much for the Navy too.

Brother, it was a light hearted joke. I just have zero interest in the Navy. I come from a family of Army men. Its just a preference. I believe making a commitment to a branch is subjective, me being positive that I could "happily" serve in said branch without regrets sound pretty smart to me.

Holy stool, they disqualified you for leg tattoos? I have one on the front of my shin maybe a few inches above the pedal pulse area that can be covered by crew socks, does that mean I have no hope too? It's small.
