Finally after clearing MEPs, completing 50+page application, finding references and signing my DA61 sheet my packet will go before Army Nurse Board Nov.15 2016, hopefully if I get selected I will comission as a 1stLT - just wanted any advice or 2 cents for those who have had military experience as a nurse.

I have 2 boys and I chose the reservist route vs active to prevent them from having to move around too much and being able to live close at home to them. I've been an ICU nurse for almost 8 years and have always wanted to serve my country and this website has given me so much information so for the military nurses out there how is it? Why did you choose reserve vs active or vice versa

I live in Houston according to my recruiter I will probably drill in Fort Sam in SA one weekend a month I was hoping there would be someone out there who can tell me about the experience, as far as drill weekends, scheduling, juggling civilian job and life etc. my recruiter has done well filling me in but reading personal stories on here is always great input as well.

Thanks again and if someone can reach out to me personally please PM me with your email address I'd love to hear about your experience

If you are referring to the 2 weeks summer training in the reserve, I haven't got a chance attending it. From what I heard, you will go to a military base with your unit and do drills/training. What do you want to know?

I wasn't told how many active slots,, They did say that even if they did not put us on the OML, there would still be slots open. They are confused as to why they did this. They did not seem to think it made any sense and figured it would not take long to pull us off the list. Then again, they have been wrong before:P

Congrats Ray!!!!

@Marine7 I did apply for the same positions as you. I was informed that I would be stationed in Chatanooga...but then again I was told a lot of things by my recruiter...lol...sigh..

Welp, unfortunately for me my recruiter does a poor job of communicating with me unless he wants something from me. So, I guess I'll starting bugging him on Monday.

Thx Skiggers! Mikoox do you like the reserves, overall? What is better in your opinion active duty or reserve? Or does it just depend on each individuals situation?

Being an officer in the reserves will be my first military experience and I don't want to kick myself for not going active duty from the start.

I like it. I think if you are single, like to travel around, active would be a good option. I am married and have kid, so I prefer to stay in one location.

Mikoox thank you for the input. I'm in a similar situation as for wanting to stay in one location, I'm divorced but have 2 young boys so active would have been difficult or almost impossible to see them.

How far is your duty station from home? Thanks again

Mine is 30 min away.

Nice very fortunate, mine is 3 hours away. The ISP bonus should make my drive worth it and that was the only unit that has 66S critical care slots open, is 66H medsurg? What incentive did u choose if u don't mind me asking.

I don't receive any incentive.

There should be a sign on bonus or loan repayment, did you speak to your recruiter about it? Either way if there's none available for your MOS, 1st LT is still awesome

@Marine7

Do you know where you are currently on the list? And if the OML list compiled of people waiting on the list from last year?

I don't. Hoping to find out more Monday. To my understanding, if you were on the OML and did not get picked up before the end of the physical year, you had to reboard. I could be wrong on that.
