Does any one work for this corp. or know anything about it. I know in a large corporation like that every individual facility will be different. I am looking to find out what the company overall is like, what it's reputation is like etc... Can anyone help me? I have so far in my nursing career not had a good nursing experience and I don't want this one to be another mistake. Thanks for any info. Bell

Ok. Now I'm scared!

I have orientation at HCR Manor Care in Gig Harbor, WA this Saturday!

I'm a new LPN and have been working in a peds dr office for 6 months, and am now moving into LTC. (3 bucks more per hour, and I can try out the skills I learned in school that I haven't had a chance to use yet).

I hope and pray that this facility is a good one. The only thing I have going for me is that I'm VERY personable and can usually go with the flow for the most part.

:nurse: I would stay away from Manorcare. They are a horrible company that only care about the mighty dollar. I worked at one of the Bethlehem sites for 6 years. I never was treated so badly. The DON was a bully who got off screaming at nurse in the hallway over the intercom. The unit clerk(not licensed) woulg give families medical advice. Call Docs and get telephone orders. She misrepsented herself as a nurse. Nothing wa done. She was the DONs mole. If one complained you where written up, set up etc. Horrible place stay away.:twocents:

I've heard some horrible things about Manor Care here in st. louis. I was told if you ever need a job not to go there. i dunno how true that is, but i've been in some pretty ruff facilities during my cna days.

I worked for an HCR manorcare in the midwest as a medication aide while I was in nursing school. It was a great learning experience for the type of facility, business practices, and work environment that I should not to tolerate if I was going to continue to work in LTC as a nurse. It was pretty short lived only a few months. Every single check that I received as screwed up: hours missing, lacking shift differtial,etc. As a student working only weekends I couldn't afford those mistakes that took forever to get corrected. Spoke with the lady who I was told was in charge of that stuff, I was patient and tried to be understanding, but nothing was solved the problems continued and she eventually started to ignore me and not return my calls. i was so frustrated I left a calm and profession, yet honest message for the administrator, her boss. Apparently she was really buddy buudy with the nursing manager of my department who wasn't too happy with my complaint and said I should bring those types of complaints to her. Then I had to explain to her very bluntly how the chain of command works and that her personal friendship did not give her the authority to deal with such issues. I just felt like she treated me funny from then. Turn over was so high, never heard anyone there have any possitive words to say about the place. Needless to say I went back to home health work until i finished school.

I worked exactly one shift for Manor Care (Midwest). My orientation consisted of watching the mandatory videos. After that I was handed the keys and charge of 50 residents med pass and all. The shift went by quick and the DON called me to her office and asked how things went. I told her I thought I did great, handed over my keys and informed her I wouldn't be back because for me to do this every day I'd want to be paid a h**l of a lot more money.

Bullying by the NHA, DON, and the staff clerk they enabled. Stay away!

Stay the hell away fromn this company. I worked at manorcare for 6 years. They are being sued. I was subpeonaed as a wittness. Those unfeeling jack a**** had write ups in my file that I never seen nor even did. They where attempting to make me look like a horrible unsafe nurse. And watch what you post online. Their lawyer pulled some of my posting online and used them agaist me.

:jester: Manorcare does suck. I know I worked there. I now work for a personal care home SBH in PA. I was hired as an supervisor. What a joke my work is rewritten, I am written up for things that I did not do. And the write ups are on false information. My evaluation was based on false information as well. I was told that I do not abide by the food budget. Hello, I never order the food the program director does. It also stated that I do not abide by the staffing budget. Again the PD does all the scheduling. On the eval it also stated that I am not dependable that I do not fill vacant shifts. I have filled many on weekends and on holidays. The evaluation was based on all false info. Th PD pops ativan like they are candy and lies to our boss about me. I am written up and I never am given the chance to defend my self. Needless to say I am looking for a job outside nursing. If anyone is thinking of working at the SBH do not. The pay is low and you have to deal with a disfunctional abusive company

I worked for HCR as Wellness Director during the time of the merger with Manor Care in 1998. Literally overnight my hours were reduced from 40 to 35 a week as they began "automatically" taking an hour away each day for lunch and 2 breaks. I was no longer allowed to submit time adjustment requests for the days (almost every day) that I had to stay over to complete new orders, pass meds etc. because they also fired all the medication aides and half of the assistive aides.

I promptly found another job. Even though this experience was 13 years ago that particular facility still has numerous vacancies and a long standing history of bad state surveys.

Back in May 2006, I worked at one of the several HCR Manor Care nursing homes in Fort Worth, Texas. My employment was short-lived with this company, lasting 1 week before I decided to quit. In my area, their LTC units have good reputations, whereas their rehab units have bad reputations and high employee turnover rates.

I worked their rehab unit. The unit manager promised that I would receive 6 weeks of training and plenty of support. However, I received 2 days of training before being cut loose.

HCR Manor Care has the benefits of being part of a major corporation such as good health insurance, perks, and paid holidays. If you decide to work for them, do not work their rehab units. Strictly tell them that you want to work LTC only. Good luck, and I hope you find your niche.

I wish I'd read this before I started working for them. Rehab is all I've done from Day 1 of working with them as a first time nurse. Not a good experience at all. Someone said "If you don't click with the management you're out the door"? Very accurate statement, regardless of how hard you work or how much heart you put into the job, which for this company, will have to be a lot of hard work. Take it if it's the only offer you got while looking for something else.
