Yeah, I know...Ive been doing LTC for more years than I'd like to admit and I should be used to it by know, but normally it really hasn't effected me.

So.we had some issues that were slowly being dealt with, or at least I was lead to believe, but someone called the state to report it. (Not sure if the issues were reportable) Of course, I was labled as the "state caller" because I reported some of the "issues" to the DON. Hey...I wouldn't mind if I actually did call, because if I would call, I would have a good reason to call, but I didn't.

Seems like it is just so easy to gossip about someone when they are only pt.

Vent over! :nuke:

Isn't it just like LtC MANAGMENT to look for an employee to blame for their problems when what they ought to be doing is addressing the problems.

Well, if they retaliate against you because they believe you may have reported to state, you may be protected under your state law. In WI we have a law called the WI Healthcare Worker Whistleblower Retaliation Protection Act. It might be a good idea to find out if your own state has a similar law.

As the post above me said you are protected.

However, Dealing with the same at my LTC I've learned tomorrow something different will happen for them all to talk about!

It was last Mon I told a co-worker to kiss my *** That was talked about 15 subjects ago. Life goes on. Hang tough.

Well, not quite, not all states have these laws.

Also, if a nurse reports to an outside agency or in house, they can still be fired in retaliation, these laws give the nurse-reporter legal recourse to sue , some state laws provide for reinstatement of the job and back pay and lawyers fees, but the states that do have these laws have their own twist to their retaliation protection laws, it is a good idea to find out what your state law provides for, or IF your state has such a law.

I am the DNS and I would like my staff to tell ME the issues that are going on in the building. I report many many things to the DPH..nothing gets swept under the carpet in my facility. I wish they would tell me straight out instead of gossiping amongst themselves. I know many things, but mind reading is not one of them.

I sooo agree Capecod. The thing about this is that everyone knew what was going on in this building. Everyone. (Even me and I'm always the last person to find out things :) ) I think what frustrated a lot of staff if that the "issue" did have a potential to harm residents and it was left to go on because proving who did it to a 100% certainty wasn't possible because of the nature of the problem. Everyone knew who it was at about an 99.999% . What kills us is that people have gotten let go for a lot less.

I did not report anything. If it was me...I wouldn't mind the rumor.
