Wellstar Kennestone

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi everyone,

I had previously inquired about Grady Hospital. After many negative opinions, I decided that is not the place for me.

However, one person who replied to my Grady post mentioned that Wellstar Kennestone was a good place to work.

Just curious, are there others who have an opinion on Wellstar Kennestone? If so, please share!!!

I visited the website, and it seemed nice.

I just thought many of the nurses had bad attitudes. For example, I was in a room with a RN who said (in front of a patient who is totally coherent) "I really hate this woman". Very inappropriate!! It really broke my heart.

I've never experienced anything like that in the ICU, and I'm truly sorry for anyone who has seen this type of attitude anywhere in the hospital. Unfortuately, you will have those few people with attitudes like that almost anywhere you go. I personally have had a great experience at Kennestone in the ICU. Teamwork is what we live for :) And positive attitudes fill our unit. It truly is a wonderful place to be.

Why??? Really, I must know! I feel that way about Southern Regional Hospital and now work for Wellstar Cobb and while it is stressful many of the days, I still love it there, the other nurses especially.

WOULD NEVER WORK FOR ANY WELLSTAR HOSPITAL IF THEY PAID ME DOUBLE NORM RATES.... :(

I worked for Wellstar Kennestone twice; once in the early 90's and more recently for a year and a half. The powers that be at Kennestone have no clue how to realistically manage a hospital. It's not just me who thinks that the management is incompetent; there is a rapid turnover of "exective directors" not because these people quit but because they get fired The powers that be pick people who have no common sense and who swallow whatever dictates are handed down to them. The good ones quit. It is not at all uncommon to have very ill patients in beds in the hall (example an incontinent terminal cancer patient) nor is it uncommon to get six admissions at the same time. There is no more float pool so if folks call out the standard reply is "do the best you can." Of course we all know how dangerous this is. If you mention the word "dangerous" however you become a leper. Maybe the ICU's are ok, but no other part of the hospital.

I think that Piedmont and St. Joe's are your best bet. I worked at Piedmont; it's the only hospital I would say first hand I would be willing to be a patient at. I would never let my dog be a patient at Kennestone.

what about Cobb hospital? What does anyone think of working there? Anyone know what new grads start at with WellStar?

Specializes in ICU, Adult & Pediatric Open Heart.

$23.70/hr + diffs for a new grad in ICU/Residency : )

I have worked for Kennestone for the last 6 years....and have loved it! It must depend on where you work. I have had NO management turn-over at all. The hospital encourages my growth and even offers the levels program to increase my pay. I love the people that I work with! So take everything you hear with a grain of salt. I do get my husbands health insurance. Only because its more affordable. The deductables with the wellstar insurance are high... $50 dollar co-pays. That being said they do have tons of other benefits. 401K matched retirement, health place membership for less than 25 dollars a month, a pharmacy you can order your perscriptions from. The list go on. I think in a big system some people can get lost in the shuffle. As a nurse you need to work in an enviroment where you can do your best with the support of your co-workers.

Wellstar's pay is actually competitive with the rest of metro atlanta. One of the highest hourly rates I was quoted was from Wellstar...
