Georgia Highlands College Waiting Game!

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hopefully, we are getting close to hearing something. I wanted to start a new thread and see if anyone wanted to play the waiting game for fall ADN Program. We've been waiting since April 1st and it's about time we heard something.:anbd:

Where do you work at kennestone? I know the feeling...everyday I call my hubby and ask him to check the mail. I know they said late June but I can't help myself!!!!!!! I want to know either way.

Ok everybody......here's the deal.

After my final exam today, I put on my brave girl panties, and I called the nursing department. I had to ask them a question about financial aid, but I was on the phone with the administrative secretary for a while talking. After you talk for a while, they kind of start to warm up to you. I couldn't resist! I had to ask. So, I did.

This is what she told me. "I am working on the applications as we speak." So, I asked her if the letters might possibly be mailed out next week. She said, "Well, it probably will be the week after next, because they haven't even met yet to decide who to admit. They meet next week."

So, according to my phone conversation with her today, she is still pulling up everybody's grades so that when the nursing admittance board meets next week, they can decide on who is admitted and who is not.

So, I am still banging my head against the wall because we still don't have the letters....but at least I know that they aren't just holding the letters and laughing at our nervous breakdowns. I don't know why they waited so late this year, or what procedure they changed from last year.

I know that I will still probably check the mail everyday anyway, like it is going to be there. I know that it won't be there, but it helps to keep me sane and it makes me feel like I'm doing SOMETHING!

But hey, let's look on the bright side... Since they have waited this long to send out letters, we shouldn't be up against those people who were accepted to other nursing schools for the fall already.

And by all means Dallas....if you figure out the secret to getting initiated into this little secret society, you let us know! :bowingpur I don't know how much more my poor husband can take of me being a grump.

Starrdan...I don't think there is anything on the GHC website regarding the Wellstar scholarship program.

Thank you so much for getting something out of them. Now, we just need to pray this week and pray REALLY HARD next week!!!

Thanks for your post Hopeformelissa, you are one determined girl by anyone's standards. I would admit you in the program and hire you for a job. Unfortunately I am not in that position b/c I would admit us all. Well I am going to start praying now for our fate to be determined next week. This experience is a true test of nerves. None the less, a truly humbling experience.

I called the nursing department again. ROUND 2!! They stated that they would sub by precal score for college algebra....YEAH! Just a FYI..they will not sub english 1102 for 1101.

Yay for Starrdan!!!!! That will make your admission score higher. :yeah:

I do believe that I failed the patience part of this whole thing! It's a good thing there's not a grade for that, because I would NEVER get an acceptance letter. lol

I just recalculated my admission score and I have a 1567. I hope this is good enough!!! I really wish that I could redo my freshmen year of college. Category I -- I have a 917, Category II -- I have a 450, Category III -- I have a 200. So, according to the worksheet the Biology classes count 50%, the core classes count 30%, and the SAT counts 20%.

What are your admission scores?

I just realized I made an error in calculating :crying2: I have a 1267.

I'm confuse how you guys calculate on getting accepted into Georgia Highlands. I'm looking to apply in Spring of 2010. Could you break down the calculations in more details?

I just went by the nursing worksheet. It can be quite confusing if you have not taken all of the classes. Just remember its 3 points for an A, 2 points for B and 1 point for C. I was thinking itwas 4 points for an A like figuring our GPA. It does state the correct point system on the sheet. I just totally looked over it.

ok. ty.

Starrdan....

I turned in my application WAYYYY back in January, to the nursing department. (I was just so excited!) I filled out the worksheet that was online and turned it in with my application.

I did not realize, until you just posted what you did, that they have changed the worksheet! Apparently they changed the worksheet since I filled it out and turned mine in. The one that I filled out counted the biologies as 40%, the other core as 40% and the SAT scores as 20%. It also counted A's as 4 points, B's as 3 points, C's as 2 points. Now all of that is different! Starrdan, I don't think your calculations are correct. The highest possible score for category I is a 750. You might be calculating yours the wrong way too.

So, I just called up there again in a panic....because my admission score is actually higher than what I filled out, now that they have made this change. She said that they always redo the worksheets anyway just to make sure that they are filled out right.

So, I think my admission score is 1339. I have an A in all three biologies and an A in all of the core classes with the exception of one B.

LilQueen.... the admission score worksheet can be found on the GHC nursing website

to calculate your admission score you basically give yourself 3 points for each A, 2 points for each B, 1 point for each C. The calculations are broken down into three sections. Once section is for the biologies (Anatomy/Physiology I, Anatomy/Physiology II, Medical Microbiology). Add up your points. That section counts 50% of your admission score.

The next section is the remaining core classes required. That section counts 30% of your admission score.

The third section is your SAT score. Add your Reading and Math scores from your SAT. That counts 20% of your admission score.

Then you add up each section for your admission score.
