Working while in nursing program with 2 children (9 y.o. & currently 10 mo.)

Hello All! I'm hoping to enter the busing program in the Fall...I was wondering what are your suggestions on working, with 2 children, while in the program?! Thank you for the feedback ?

It's hard and it always seems impossible but you can get it done. I wrote myself a letter when I found out I got accepted into my nursing program and when I feel like I can't keep up the pace anymore I read it. It's totally possible and if you don't have great time management and priority skills you will learn them very quickly :)

I'm finishing my 1st semester on Dec 8th. I work 36 hours and will continue to as long as possible. I have a 3yr old and 16 month old. So far I'm doing well and hope to continue doing so. I totally agree with having good time management skills. It isn't easy but can be done. Good luck!

I work 24 hours a week and go to school full time, but no kids. Do what you gotta do!

Some people will try to discourage you but keep your head up and work hard!! I gave birth right in the middle of one of my sessions. I ended up going back 5 days later to do a skills check off. Many people told me it would be impossible but, here I am two semesters away from graduating!! I have a 4 year old too! I am lucky that my husband works so I only work one day per week. Just know that sometimes you are going to have to put your schooling first! This means having to call off work when you need that extra study time or spending less time with your kids. It's worth it. With hard work and determination you can get through this challenge. Good luck to you :)

You ladies are an inspiration, I have a 3 and 6 year old and work PRN averaging 24-36 hrs/ week. I'll be starting my BSN program in a few weeks and I know that there are a lot of people in similar situations. At least now I know it's possible!

I worked 3 twelve hour shifts. It's tough but doable. As others said time management is key. So is planning and cutting back things that are not a priority (Internet, friends, etc).

oh i had a 3 year old when I started and had my second while in school and I have to toot my own horn missed zero lectures and made up 2 clinical days (my school was amazing about making it work).

I HIGHLY recommend getting a student nurse/patient care tech position once you have completed fundamentals. It gives 12 hour shifts, experience and a crucial in with a hospital.
