Hey everyone! I finally did it! I successfullly started my first IV! After five :imbar failed attempts over the last few semesters, and with the help of a wonderful knowledgable nurse, I got it!
I was so excited afterward, I went down the hallway and did a happy dance!

Cool.. :) We have our IV check offs on Monday... I'm not too nervous about it... Heck, if I can start an IV in a 2# dehydrated Chihuahua puppy, a human should be a piece of cake :)hehe
Congrats

Way to Go!! :balloons:
I'm not even in clinicals yet. Were your five failed attempts on (gulp) patients? Other students? I'm really nervous about hurting somebody. I hope I find a patient, knowledgable nurse to show me the way!

Awsome! I can't wait until I can post saying I have gotten an IV in--so far I haven't even had the opportunity to try!

Congratulations! Unfortunately we are not allowed to start IVs as a student in our school. I'm lucky enough to work in the ER so I've had the opportunity there.

Yup, five failed attempts on patients. We weren't allowed to practice on each other as students, but I wish we could have. I would have gladly been a pin cushion so that we could at least get a feel for it before performing a skill on a patient.
Thanks, everyone for sharing in my joy!
