Who pins you at your pinning ceremony?

My school has always allowed students to choose who they wanted to pin them? Now just weeks before our pinning we were informed that we must be pinned by a faculty member. We are very upset because most of us had already asked someone. They said that is the way it is done at all other schools. I was curious who can pin you at your pinning ceremony? Does it have to be faculty member or can it be a family member?:banghead:

At my school we have to be pinned by a RN. We can pick who we want family/friend/faculty as long as they are a RN!

At our school its the junior class that pins the seniors. Well, volunteers from the Student Nurse Organization that are members of the junior class...

I think it would be more special if you had someone you chose pin you, but I can see how having an RN pin you would convey a sense of accomplishment.

That's some patootie! This is YOUR pinning ceremony. I don't know about your school-- but the student nurses raised funds for our ceremony. I'll be darned if an instructor pinned me!

My husband and boys are going to pin me. They are the ones who supported me throughout this whole journey. :redbeathe

Specializes in ICU, Emergency Department.

At my school, it's faculty only; if you're in the nursing club, you get to select a faculty member- otherwise, you get whoever is there when you walk up.

at our school my understanding is it will be whomever you feel has supported you most through your journey. Mine will be my hubby.

Specializes in Geriatrics, orthopedics.

I'm so jealous of those people who get to pick who pin them! Our dean pins us which I think is ridiculous considering she doesn't even know who we are, just our names from the tuition checks that we send her way each semester. It's pretty lame if you ask me! We also don't have a separate pinning ceremony- we get pinned at graduation. They call our names and say what all we were affiliated with during school if anything and then the dean pins you and you take a picture with her shaking your hand. :banghead: I graduate on Friday, so this is what I get to look forward to! Either way, I'm so relieved, thankful and excited to be officially DONE with NS! :D:nurse:

Our school used to let the seniors choose anyone they wanted. This year they changed it to only the faculty who pinned the seniors.

Specializes in Oncology, Med-Surg, Nursery.

Wow, I didn't realize so many schools allowed you to choose! I think that is very neat. At our school we were pinned by the Divison Head of the Nursing Department. It was a little strange, because she never took us to clinical, only lectured once or twice, yet she was the one to pin us.

Specializes in Ortho, Neuro, Detox, Tele.

yep...I've only seen the dean when I was in trouble(once), when we took our exit, when she taught class(twice)....and that's it in 2 years. I WISH we got to choose....I'd pick my grandmother...who's been a RN for 30-x years....and who also went to a HARDCORE diploma NS back in the 40's.....you had to raid the pantry to get enough to eat!

Specializes in ER/Trauma.

When I went through LPN school, it was the department head who pinned us. Where I am going now for my ASN, we are not allowed to have a pinning, but we can buy a pin. So, I am going to have my husband and daughter pin me at the open house following graduation.

I hope you are able to get it changed back to the people you have already asked. That doesn't seem right to change it at the last minute!

i don't know how they do it at my school, I can tell you right now though if it was my instructor no way would I even go to the ceramony. I would like my husband and kids as well, they are by far the biggest support I have had throughout!
