Wisconsin has gutted Medicaid, no mandated ratios!
This has nothing to do with the "far right" as you call it. The country is broke. States have no choice but to cut their budgets. We can not continue to rack up massive debt in this country. We are bankrupting our children's futures.

Need advice about what to put on job application
I need some advice about what to put on job application. I became on RN in 2008 and began my first RN job in September. I loved the job, but I was unfortunately diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in March of this year. The chemotherapy was rough so I took a leave of absence. I finished chemotherapy and had my surgery which all went really well. I am ready to go back to work but there are no jobs in my old department. I am not interested in changing specialties. There is a job in another hospital that would be perfect for me. My question is how should I answer the question about why I left my last job. Should I just say health reason or be specific and say a cancer diagnosis. I am just afraid a nurse manager might look at me and be worried that I will miss work because of my cancer. My prognosis is excellent and I am so ready to go back to work. The position I am interested in is a prn position so they don't have to worry about my insurance cost. thanks!

Port a Cath for IV fluids
Thanks for all the info. It sounds like I need to talk to my surgeon ahead of time and make sure there is an order to use my port.

Port a Cath for IV fluids
I am having my bilateral mastectomy in 11 days and I wondered if they would be able to use my port a cath for IV access while I am in the hospital. I have had my power port since March. I am not asking for medical advice. I just want to know if anyone has ever seen a port a cath used and the patient not be stuck again with a peripheral IV. I hate needles (funny for a nurse isn't it). I want to prepare myself for an IV stick if it is coming.

Depressed about oreintation schedule
I graduated last month and take NCLEX this Wednesday. I have the perfect job which I am suppose to start next week in NICU. My job will be a night position with 12 hour shifts which is what I wanted. I knew that my orientation would take place during the day shift. The nurse manager called me this week and told me that she wants me to work Monday through Friday for 8 hours a day for a while. This has me very depressed. I assumed that I would work `2 hour shifts from the beginning. I have small children and want to be with them sometimes. I have a teaching degree. If I had wanted to work every day M-F I could be a teacher. I also had a mother who would carpool with me so I could get my kids to school. In order to carpool though you have to be able to drive sometimes. The hours the nurse manager wants me to work every weekday would make that impossible. Do you think I could negotiate with my nurse manger? NICU jobs are not easy to find, and I really want this job. I really can't stand the thought of being away from 2 year old every day! I never thought that I would have this problem with nursing.

NCLEX in Georgia
Please tell me how long it takes to get results of your NCLEX is you take the test and apply for a license in Georgia. I live in South Carolina and graduate from a SC school next month. I have a job in Georgia. I can't decide if I should take boards in Georgia or South Carolina.I wonder how ling it would take to get a Georgia license if I sit in SC first.

Research to justifty the use of WCON nurses
Hello, I am an RN student and will graduate in July. I am also on the SC board for the Student Nurses Association. I will be attending the National SNA convention in March. I am working on a resolution for the national convention which stresses the importance of having WCON nurses on staff at hospitals to do pre and post op teaching for ostomy patients. I am looking for a research article which gives a numerical justification for having these specializes nurses on staff. I am looking for data which shows better outcomes for patients who are treated by an WCON nurse. I have to submit a copy of any sources that I use. As a student I have seen the results of poor teaching of ostomy patients. Thanks in advance for your help
