Hi all! I am doing pre-reqs now and plan on keeping my A&P textbook but was wondering if there are others you kept or wish you kept? I am finishing Micro and Chem next week and I think I will sell those both back and would love some input.

Thanks!!

I keep all of my text books and all of my notes too. Boy what a relief it is to open an old notebook to see how aldosterone, adh and renin work!

I have kept everything science or psychology related. I actually referred to my A & P book recently because I found a mistake in my Corbett Lab and Dx tests book having to do with pulmonary function testing. I was glad to have the A & P book to check myself against.

I kept my microbiology, patho, and A&P books and have absolutely referred back to them. I'm glad I kept them. I sold back my chem book and have never missed it.

I kept A&P, Chem and Organic and BioChem. I haven't used any of them this whole time I've been in nursing school. I still have 1 semester left, so I might then, but I'm not counting on it. Sell your books back, get the $$ for it. You can always check-out the same or a similar book from your school's library or look online! It's mostly your NURSING books you will use again. With the exception of the OB, Pediatrics, Gero, and Psych specific books.

I did not keep any of my pre req books. I have completed one full year of nursing school (Fundementals, OB, Med Surg I) and have not needed any of those from pre req. All information you need is on the internet. In addition, most Med Surg text books will have a chapter that reviews the system followed by problems of that system. For example you might have a chapter on GI anatomy (esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancrease etc) and then chapters on Upper GI issues, Lower Gi issues, Liver and Billiary Tract issues etc.

Sell, sell, sell. Save your money for NS texts and supplemental books.

I also sell everything with the exception of one psych book that a cat wizzed on, lol. I hardly have the time to read the current chapters they assign let alone do more than google a bit of info if I do need it.

Specializes in New Graduate Nurse.

I kept my Anatomy and Physiology book...sold back all other books. I haven't wished I kept or found that I would need any of the other text books. The only book I could foresee maybe wishing I had kept would be my Microbiology book...the whole latter half was disease process related to various infections. That may come in handy.

I have used my A&P book though. Really glad I kept it although its getting a little worse for wear....probably should have bought that book new instead of used.

When I was in A&P I and II, I bought a medical dictionary. Found it helped with some of the lab manual questions. I have found that little medical dictionary to be worth its weight in gold. Sometimes you have to look the same word up 3-4 times before it sinks in. There is so much new (medical) language to learn.

Hope this helps

I would keep my micro and my chemistry to be honest with you.. I am almost done with MY RN!! and I have kept all my books I may not use them often but they are a reference I figure I will use and keep updated...

I will not get this new lewis 7th because I have lewis 6 th edition but in 4 years when the lewis 8 is out depending on what I am doing career wise I will probably get the updates book.

In nursing unlike many professions you will be learning all the time you will always run into a pt that will challenge your knowledge and make you want to dig deeper.

I would really keep micro and chemistry as reference material

I kept all of my Pre-Req books...My Sociology professor from a couple years ago told our class to "build yourself a library". Most of the time, when selling back a textbook, you won't even get back half of what you paid for it, so why not keep it for future reference? They might come in handy some day.

Specializes in Pediatric Intensive Care, Urgent Care.

Just the A&P textbook...oh and nutrition...good reference guides. Everything can go back.
