  1. Hey folks, I worked a shift at a local Jail for a Agency to make a few extra dollars as work at my reg 9-5 job has been slow... It was a max security county jail that has at least 600-700 inmates at all times. The first thing I noticed that I thought was insane was on the overnite shift they had 1 RN on no PA NO NP just 1 SINGLE RN for well over 600 people ages 16-100....yes they have a 100 year old inmate... Any ways they said " help us do a med pass" well the med pass is taking a cart packed with every drug you could possibly name... {Picture pushing a WalGreens store room around on a 4 wheel cart because that was what this was}. And I literally had to give meds to over 600 inmates and they wanted it done in 2 hours. Good grief not only was I deeply sad over the amount of 16 year old boys in there yes here 16 year olds go right to adult jail no seperation from the 40 year old predators at all.. but the med pass was just insanity I can only hope I didn't make any mistakes as often the MAR name and the med package name did not match for example on the MAR brand name but med packet Generic name. plus I was under constant pressure from the deputies to just toss there meds in a cup and throw it at the idiots.. not literally put they did pressure me to go fast... now Mind you some inmates got well over 8-9 meds at one time. I feel so bad for these Nurses who do this on a daily basis. You talk about Understaffed what the Jails are enduring is beyond what any Nurse should be put under.
  2. if thats the case leave that job!!! for the love of GOd your life is more valuable than that do not let them do this to you please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! trust me do not let a nurse manager do this to you there is life after the hospital there really is.
  3. THere is life beyond the hospital folks if the hospital makes you stressed, cry sick ect MY advice leave Leave before they turn your hair gray give you ulcers or you end up a patient in the psych ward!!!!! there is work outside the Hospital the pay may not be as high but the fact you can enjoy your job again is priceless!!!!!!!! do not let som hospital nurse manager push you around do not take the abuse for your own sake and health think of yourself and your family and most important your happiness!!!!!!
  4. Hey I think hospital based NUrsing has become the pits maybe with he exception of OR nursing. I have been working as a pediatric home care RN, A substitute School NUrse and even in the Speciality med dept for United health care
  5. hey everyone I will not give up on nursing I worked hard to earn my RN I like nursing I like working with patients and I love medicine I had a appointment with my MD and described some symptoms I had been having related to keeping organized and more forgetful lately.. He said well you know what let me do some screening here after a bunch of questions he was well you mark really have many symptoms of Adult attention deficit disorder so who knows could very well be maybe thats why school was hard for me? anyways he has me trying a medication and I'll see him again in 4 weeks and a whole bunch of labs cas DM type 2 and thyroid problems run in the family.
  6. well I would like to be able to not work ina hospital period sadly everyone wants you to work ina hospital for a year.... I am not stupid I worked hard and long to get My "RN" maybe I should not feel so bad this last floor wanted me to have 10-12 patients at one time anyways... sigh.,... I've had over 7 pts per 12 hour shift... good luck trying to provide good safe competent nursing care... did you know my trainer told me you don't have to listen to each pts lungs each day if they can talk thats good enough? and oh yea get this because of the new changes in medicare from now on they wanted me to document any red area on a pt as a deep tissue injury.. but thats not a deep tissue injury how do you know that? I asked hush mark if you don't document that way we don't get paid now deep tissue injury you understand us.
  7. well I have tried med surg 2 different floors and starting to feel like I wasted 9,000 and that MY RN means little to nothing... I have no desire to ever work in a nursing home and not exactly sure what I will do... I am 42 now I dont have time to start a career gosh why do I feel like I wasted my life I also feel right now
  8. I purchased it from vitacost.com use the NSI brand it is called longevital. NSI is there own brand I try and exercise 3-4 times a week but not always successful. mark
  9. hey chloe I am on a cardiac floor So I suppose tele- cardio is my area but have lots of general med pts also. I would love to be a surgical nurse but that seems harder to get into for whatever reason. If I can't do that in a while then I will eventually look for a non hospital nursing job I think
  10. hey chloe I am working in Buffalo but am Rochester raised.
  11. does your hospital have a union for the nurses? if so has it helped or not? why do nurses constantly eat each other rather than say have a more powerful labor voice when dealing with all these health care systems or merged hospitals which really means big corporations concerned with one thing there bottom line not your wages. Don't you think it is sad that in most places in the USA a RN makes less than a dental hygenist.... heck in upstate NY my Hygenist makes over 30 bucks a hour and she started at 29 dollars a hour far more than what a starting RN will make here.
  12. is your first job easier than nursing school?-- no would I have chosen something different? possibly dpt,dc, or OD come to mind
  13. Nursing is not big money I quess it depends.. to me If they offered me a job making about 50- 60 an hour that would be good money but if you really break things down 60 bucks a hour is about 112,000 a year in todays world that is not really "big money" Many Police officers earn that easy it is sad that as RN's there are very few jobs that even come close to paying that.
  14. any one taking this supplement? I take that along with a green tea extract each day. I had a bp of 100/62 last time I got a checkup which was even lower than before MY MD was like gee your bp is lower every time I see you whatever your up to keep it up.
