just curious what field of nursing we all hope to work in one day? or what field we are interested to start out in?

for myself someday i think i would like to work in labor&delivery, but first i want to start out in med-surg. i want some experience and a chance to work on the skills i learn before thinking of l&d.

After finishing nursing school I would like to work in L & D(postpartum) or the NICU. Ultimately I want to become a Neonatal N.P. (at least for now). There are a myriad of career opportunities in nursing. I also want to become a lactation consultant and teach birth courses to expectant parents. As you all can see I'm fascinated with pregnancy and birth....lol

I am hoping to enter an advanced form of nursing, either practitioner, or Nurse Anesthetist. I want to start off in an area where I can sharpen my skills. If I go into Anesthesia I will have to work in the ICU. I would love to work in pediatrics. I think it's really too soon to tell where I will end up.

Specializes in Burn/Trauma PCU.

I'm heading toward the ICU with the little ones - either NICU or PICU. I've always been drawn to that area, and I much prefer to have 2 or 3 critical patients than 6 or 8 ones I have to run around to!

I definitely want to be a NP someday, but I am open to other field suggestions. Who knows? Maybe I'll do geriatrics and absolutely love it. I haven't started clinicals so I'm giving myself opportunities to change my mind along the way...

i really hope to be able to work in labor and delivery or mother/baby or postpartum. however i can also see myself in the hospice setting and would like to work some in oncology due to the wonderful nurses that helped my mother in the last days of her life when she died of melanoma. i think it's because of my personal experiences in these two areas that makes my heart follow these paths in nursing. i think being a school nurse would make me happy too. you never know though i could end up anywhere. i would like to stay open minded about it. but those are my hopes and plans as of now.:)

I'm thinking about going into PACU/ Recovery. It sounds really good to wake them up from surgery and send them to the floor. Working as an LPN on the floor I have had enough Med/Surg for a while.

Geriatrics, me thinks. Eventually a NP....

I've wanted to do labor & delivery for years. I've talked to a lot of nurses that worked L&D before and left because they couldn't stand the mothers postpartum. I'm still leaning towards L&D though.

Specializes in Hey I'm now an RN!!.

Oncology. Definately. Worked on a Onc unit for 8 years and miss the types of patients and families. I feel I could be of the most support there. That's where my heart is.:nurse:

Emergency, I can't imagine working anywhere else!!!
