What Do I Do Now

I previously wrote about the fact that I was one of fourty students who failed the last semester of nursing school. I talked to the dean as well as her staff to get information on when I would be allowed to get back in to finish the program and got nowhere. I don't know what else to do. The school refuses to tell me where I stand on the waiting list, saying it's confidential information, but I feel like they are trying to hide something. I've been trying to find out where I stand so that I can figure out when I will be able to go back, but they just double talk their way out of answering me. I don't know what else to do. I called other schools about transfering, but either the waiting list is too long or they want me to do the entire program over. I was hoping someone out there would have some ideas as to what to do next. Please help, I'm at my wits end.

When calling doesn't work it's time to put things in writing. Write a formal letter asking where you stand in regard to failing your last semester. Every school I've ever heard of tells students where they are on the waiting list. Otherwise how could you plan your time?

In your letter state the conversations you have had and with whom they occured. Send a copy to the head of the nursing program and the dean of the school. If you don't get a reply, write again and then consider going to the school board. Look in your school catalog, there should be a process for grievances that you can follow to get results.

When all else fails, it seems putting things in writing, delivered by certified mail that has to be signed for gets thing done. They can't ignore the situation or pretend you never called this way.

Good luck.

LatinGirl, I'm sorry about what happened to you. I think the advice given above is what I would consider. Document everything and start sending your requests via email and/or certified mail if you need to. Try not to be annoying, but be persistent. You need this information to plan your next steps, so your requests do not seem to be unreasonable. Good luck to you!

Oh my--I am so sorry you are having a hard time! Just hang in there and stay on their butts. In the mean time, have you thought about taking the NCLEX-PN? You can do that after 2 semesters of school-then you can work while you are waiting.

Good luck!

try to take the LPN NCLEX test to at least have something, and write (in a factual non-emotional way) a letter to the Dean of the program outlining the issue and previous responses with dates, names and times. CC it to the department head, and the college president as well. You need to be able to plan your future.

Latin girl, I am sorry to hear about not passed your last semester. I do not think there should be a waiting list if you have just one semester left. I hope you get in. The only thing you can do, if the school does not accept you back, is to check excelsior and finish online. Can you take the LPN exam? There must be other options. Good luck to you.

There isn't much choice on "there should not be a wait list". X number of people passed the next to the last semester and advance to the final semester. If excess number of people fail the final semester, there will be too many people for the spots available, and someone will be waitlisted.

Nursing school is not like accounting or english - you cannot merely add seats to a classroom. Schools are seriously limited by number of area hospitals, lab space, number of instructors, and their . They cannot just add openings randomly.

As others have said, consider taking the NCLEX-PN and then perhaps you would be able to do a LPN-RN program at another college, so you wouldn't have to redo a whole program. Goodluck with whatever you decide!
