What to do during summer

  1. 0
I am a nursing major in a 4 year school. I will be accepted into the college of nursing this spring and will begin nursing classes Fall 2012. I have been trying to find a summer internship of some sort to help build my resume and gain experience. However, most everything I find is for students who have already completed some clinicals. Can anyone advise me on what I should do this summer?

I'm in the same situation, except a 2-year program. I'm thinking of getting my NA license over the summer so I'll at least have a glimpse of the craziness I'll be getting into my state offers 6-8 week courses and reimburses tuition if I get a job as an NA [even part time] within a year of licensure. Good luck and congratulations!

    What about getting your CNA?

I'm not sure if you are interested or if you have such a program in your area, but I think it might be neat to try volunteering for hospice. It'll give you some hands on patient experience.

You have to be trained first, it's about 24 hours worth of lecture and then you're certified to volunteer.

Volunteer or try to go for your CNA if you can. You can get a job as a PCT (patient care tech) but most hospitals require a year or two of clinicals under your belt before you are eligible.

Personally? I would enjoy my summer and take the time to do things I enjoy doing. Nursing school is hard work and once you start you will be wishing you had some free time on your hands!
