Just wondering what everyones grades were in the prereq's??? Micro, Chem, Anat, etc..........I feel like everyone getting in must be straight A students, its sooooo competitive. Of course I live in California where everything is super competitive. Just hoping to hear from some of you guys on this!

Was doing pretty good grade wise (3.8something) until I started Nursing school 3 semesters ago......but at least I am passing!!!!! :chuckle

Specializes in Home Health Care.

Here's a list of my co-reqs: I'm sure my GPA will change considerably when I start the real nursing classes this fall:uhoh21: I've heard they are difficult.

Fundamentals of Speech A

Critical Thinking /humanities A

College Writing I A

Academic Math A

General Psychology B

Accelerated Basic Algebra I B

Medical Terminology A

Nutrition B

Computer Essentials A

Growth & Development A

Introduction to Sociology A

Anatomy Lecture A

Anatomy Lab A

General Microbiology A

(I'm currently taking Physio & Lab, & Nursing Fundamentals)

I had A's in all my sciences, except for Chem (B - I took it online and it was pretty tough that way, I thought). My overall GPA (when I was accepted) was a 3.8

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

All my non-science prereqs were A's.

My science prereqs were:

Bio - A

Micro - B

A&PI - B

A&PII - B (would have gotten an A but I turned in one lab late and got a 0 on it, which really screwed up my average).

ETA: These classes (with the exception of general Bio) were taken at the same time I was taking the core nursing courses.

Specializes in LDRP.

I got an A in all my prereqs and other classes (A&P 1 &2, Micro, Biology, Computers, Psych, Med Terms, Developmental Psych, Drug Dosage Calculations, Sociology) except for the B i got in public speaking

IN nursing, I am in my 4th semester. Have gotten a B every semester so far, this one, though, I currently have an A average. We'll see if I keep it!

Specializes in Rural Health.

My overall GPA for my 1st degree was a 3.4. If you took just my major classes, it was like a 3.9. I actually didn't do so hot in my pre-req science classes, an A in Chem and a C in Bio. That was all 10+ years ago.....I did great though in all the rest of my pre-reqs like math, english, etc.....

I'm in A&P now, probably will get a B (OK, hoping that I get a B). I will take Micro this fall. All I can say is thank goodness I'm already in the nursing program and all I have to do is get the C in these 2 classes to graduate :-)

The school I got into is not over zealous about grades (obviously), they take a lot more into consideration which I think is great but it is still a very competitive school receiving over 300 applications a year for 40 spots.

My school focuses on the holistic approach to everything, maybe they holistically picked the applicants?????

Ok, I have a Master's degree in a non-related field and I have been accepted into one accelerated program and I have interviewed at another. My CUM is a 3.2 and my Pre-req is 3.8

Stats A

General Psychology was a C but had them switch it for an upper level Psych course A

Nutrition A

Growth & Development was a C but had them switch it with an upper level Developmental class A

Introduction to Sociology C

Anatomy I and II A

Anatomy I and I Lab A

Chemistry A

General Microbiology--??

Micro - B

A&P 1 - B

A&P 2 - B

Chem - B

Speech - A

Psych - A

Soc - A

Eng - A

I'm halfway through my first semester ADN with A's so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

From what I heard there were 200 applicants in the pool for my class and they accepted the top 80 based upon grades in the above classes. I heard a couple people made it in with a C, but not more than one C.

Specializes in Geriatrics, DD, Peri-op.

Through LPN school, prereqs and now RN school...a B+ and 2 B's, the rest A's. A strong A so far this semester (Nursing Process 3).

3.93 total GPA.

Specializes in Global Health Informatics, MNCH.

I'm starting a direct entry program in June. My undergrad GPA (including prereq) was not very good. I did do really well in grad school though. I also had very good letters of recommendation, and good related work experience, good GRE scores and a good essay. Because I've worked in health care since I graduated I was able to write my essay relating to my past job experiences and my plans for my nursing career. Also, all of my recommendations came from people who work in health care (a midwife I used to work with; my current boss, who is a director of quality management at an MCO and a nurse; and a CEO of an ambulatory care center who has an MPH from the university I'm applying to, on the board for a number of organizations, and wrote that she plans to hire me after I graduate in my rec letter). If your grades aren't that great (which is why I assume your asking), focus on strengthening the other parts of your application. There are schools that are really strict about GPA cutoffs because their programs are small to begin with but a lot of schools will look at your application even though you don't make the GPA cutoff so just be ready to sell yourself in other areas.

Specializes in OB, lactation.

I got A's in all my prereqs except a B in Chemistry (it was a really screwed up class all the way around) and I got a C in Statistics, that one was a class that I took back in college the first time like 10-15 years ago and I wasn't as serious a student then ;)
