What are you wearing for Pinning?

After working our behinds off for the last couple of years and only 12 weeks left before graduation, I can't believe that what we will wear for Pinning has now become a heated debate in our class. Until a few years ago, our school had females wear the traditional white Nurses Dress and Cap for Pinning, then they allowed female students the choice of the dress or pantsuit, which is fine with most of us.

I'm one of the "ancient" students in class and although Nurses no longer wear the "Dress or the Cap" at work, I've dreamed about getting to wear that uniform just once for graduation/pinning. If God Willing I make it to graduation, I'll consider it an Honor to put that CAP on my head. We have several males in our class - for Graduation, the guys are supposed to wear something similar to what they wear in clinicals - white pants with white zip up top. Well, the one gay guy in class has major issues with this - claims the zip up top makes him look like someone in a "Media movie". Not sure what planet he's from, but nobody would ever confuse him with a Media star, hee, hee.

Anyways, this one guy is doing his best to change the uniform all of us wear for Graduation/Pinning - just because he doesn't want to be seen in this outfit for 2 hours or pay the money for it since he'll never wear it again. Instead, his idea was to have all of us wear white dress shirts and blue docker type pants. There was a major debate about this in class and thankfully many of us chose to wear the traditional outfit and cap, but he's still pushing it and I don't think he'll stop his whining until he gets his way.

I'm guessing if he joined the Boy Scouts - he'd tell them he didn't look good in Khaki shorts and try to get that changed, he's a major pain. My opinion is -he entered a predominately female field - there is a traditional white uniform worn for graduation and he can like it or lump it. With all the problems he's caused - now some in class no longer care if we wear the Cap or not. I'm furious that this one person is rocking the boat and trying to ruin a very special ceremony that will mark the end of a very long, hard road.

Just curious what the rules are for "graduation uniforms" in other schools and if any of you have had similar problems... Thanks....

Actually having more problems with the females; quite a diversified group, agewise in the class but traditionally the graduates have worn a white nursing dress with matching jacket or a 3-piece skirt/top/jacket. This year we narrowed it down to 2 choices and voted; we're going with a sleeveless white dress with matching white jacket. We have 4 students in various stages of pregnancy @ graduation so they can chose whether the dress or suit will fit better for them. It's very pretty and none of the females have problems with the caps. the guys wear all white including a jacket but certainly not a zip-up type. I understand your frustration but I can't imagine this one guy's complaints changing the whole classes overall opinion of what to wear.

At my school, we can wear what we want, but most people wear the black robe, like in high school. Personally, I will wear a white uniform with a white scarf on my head (I always wear scarfs in school-except clinicals).

I'm wearing nothing. The problem is where am I going to put my pin?

Peace

Bwahahahaha :roll that was funny! What we wear to our pinning is spelled our for us in our student handbook as soon as we get accepted to the program. SKIRTS! Black I believe, and there is even a specific length! No Minis! Of course this is also the same program that tried to tell us in the handbook we HAD to wear granny panties under our clinical uniforms. But the dress code for pinning was reinforced a the beginning of this semester. We were pretty much told don't ask to change it cause we won't budge kind of thing. I really don't care as long as I get my pin and get the heck outta there!

Of course I am really glad we are at least wearing something because I really really don't want to see anyone of my classmates in the nude....

Our instructors pick out 3 different styles of things to wear. We then vote on them as a class. It's going to be white (even though we have 3 or 4 that aren't going to attend pinning if they are forced to wear white) and caps are not an option.

I am in my 1st year at a vocational center for LPN. All of our uniforms was chosen by our director. down to the brand and model #. White dress (everyone has the same one) navy blue apron. Males wear navy/white. We also wear caps. We get to vote this year on whether next years students have to wear caps. We all agreed ... yes! The concensus is that it is professional and neat to wear these. By the way, the dress and a pantsuit (white) with apron and cap are uniform for clinicals also.

We just have to look nice. No white uniforms, lighting of the lamps, etc. I'm kinda bummed about not getting a cap. I'll never wear it but it's such a major symbol of nursing. At least we still get the pins! Our most expensive one (solid gold, 10K) is over $300!!!!!!

At my school they only had two rules for pinning outfits. First we had to wear all white, and second the girls had to wear their caps.

The girls thought the guys should have to wear the caps too so while we were getting our graduation pictures done they shoved caps on our heads and took a picture.

The class could decide but we were given options. The options of white everything was already decided by the school of course but we got to decide skirt and jacket or dress w/jacket and the lovely traditional white nurse's cap.

We have to wear all white scrub tops and bottoms. Same for guys and girls. Kinda boring I guess, but they sure didn't leave any room for debate, lol.

We are wearing white dresses that we picked out and the guys are wearing their uniform whites.
