Yet another question (I'm full of them today!) How many people have done volunteer work? It's not required at my school, but you're given bonus point for and increasing number of hours.

If so, where did you work and in what area?

Thanks

Iliel :p

I am in the midst of deciding where I want to volunteer. I have so many options, and I just cant decide!

Part of me wants to take the spot with the Nursing unit at my local hospital. Another part of me wants to be a "Big Sister" to a girl in my community. I just dont know!

I will be committing to once a week for a couple of hours.

Best of luck to you! I think volunteering is something that can only benefit you.:)

Specializes in CICu, ICU, med-surg.

I volunteered for about six months at an assisted living facility. I loved working with the residents.

Volunteer work isn't required at my school and I'm not even sure if you get bonus points during the application process for it. I do think it's a good idea for anyone considering nursing.

As for Big Sisters...a friend of mine did that a couple of years ago and she just loved it. I seem to remember that there was a lot of preliminary paperwork and background checks before you were actually assigned a girl to work with. My friend definitely thought it was worth the extra effort.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I am thinking about volunteering at planned parenthood...

I volunteered in the SICU at a nearby hospital. I learned a lot, and the nurses were sooooo great. They let me watch all the cool stuff (dressing changes, central line insertions), and explained EVERYTHING. I also helped bathe, turn, and transport patients.

Specializes in MS Home Health.

I currently volunteer with the Adopt a Senior Program in the city I live in. I adopted a nursing home resident who has no family. I also am a hospice volunteer. I have also done other organizations like kidney foundation, MS society, you name it I have done it LOL.
