UF Fall 2017 BSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello!

I am a UF pre-nursing student applying to UF's BSN program for the Fall of 2017. I haven't seen a thread for Fall 2017 applications yet so I would like to open up a discussion! Following these forums have really helped me start mentally preparing for this application process.

I hope to hear how other applicants are approaching the nursing application and attract any tips on how to create a competitive application. I've noticed that this year's essay responses are much different than previous years'. Instead of an essay topic, we have 10 short response questions. Any takes on that? Also, I'd like to meet other UF BSN applicants (transfers as well) to get a general idea of the pool this year.

Hello! I've applied for the Fall 2017 BSN program as a transfer from Palm Beach State College. I know that UF students get priority but I was wondering if community college transfers get higher priority than other university transfers? My GPA is a 3.94, going to be a 3.95 by the time I finish my last 5 prereqs this semester. I'm also applying to USF, UNF, Nova, UM, and FIU.

Hey donna_iguana!

Your GPA looks great. From what I've heard, UF gets about 500 applicants each year and they accept about a 150 but I'm not sure whether or not community college transfers get higher priority. Best of Luck!

I submitted my application literally three hours before they stopped accepting any more applicants on February 28th. Wrote some KILLER short responses / personal statements all above four hundred words each. My GPA is lower at 3.625, but my prerequisites are a stellar 4.0. The responses, in my opinion, to the short answer questions should be personal. My preference was to use a lot of anecdotes to show how they relate to my past experiences.

Also, @ufshi17, they give priority to native UF students which can really suck. From reading allnurses posts from past applicants, they generally accept roughly 5 transfer students at max for the program so it's incredibly challenging to get in. Anything else you can do to boost your application like volunteering, TEAS, references should have been included but really isn't going to be as heavily considered as GPA and essays.

I opted to submit my application at UF just in case USF and UCF didn't work out. More options the better I guess. Not really sure if I'll make the cut because of the lower cumulative, (got struck by car one year lolll) but I think my essays might help me wedge my way inside.

Oh hey, @ufshi17, I remember seeing you post on the UCF BSN application as well. I think that might be where I have the highest chances of ending up. You'll have to keep us all updated on that thread as well when the results come in! Also super curious what your grades / TEAS score look like.

Hey @Alexand[er]! Yes I'm following the UCF BSN thread as well. I'm currently a UF student finishing up my pre-reqs (so not exactly sure where my GPA will end up) but I placed in the 96th percentile for the TEAS even though that isn't considered in the UF application. I've heard that the UF CON is trying to use a more holistic approach this year though, so hopefully the personal statement responses sway in our favor :).

Your pre-req GPA looks great! What university are you from (if you don't mind me asking)?

I was originally at USF as a business major and decided it wasn't what I wanted. I switched to HCC Brandon since it was only ten minutes from my home and I saved a bunch during the switch. Did really well there too. Full 4.0 for the entire year. Really loved and connected with the professors there.

For UF do we just kind of wait around until about June when they send out decisions?

Sound like it.

Unless you're me. I have 76 credits, all general education completed, and my prerequisites finished. The undergraduate admissions officer told me that I wasn't eligible for the program because I don't have an AA degree even though USF and UCF both have no problems with my applications. So I told that person that I paid forty-five bucks and I damn well better at least get some critiquing on those essays I worked for several days on.

Good luck everybody else! You've got one less person competing against you all~

@alexander They wanted you to have an AA degree to apply for UF's nursing program?

Yea, one of the undergraduate advisors told me the only way they could guarantee that I had completed my general education requirements was to have the AA degree. But I had no such conditions for USF or UCF. Their requirements stated you had to either have the AA degree or have general education completed at a Florida public university. So mine is completed at USF and they're still going to deny me. ;;

If you don't mind me asking, with all those credits how come you don't have the AA degree?
