UGH!! Have you EVER heard of such a thing? Well, when I went to register for my nursing classes :D :D :D , the director hands me a sheet & informs me that there will be a test the first day of class & that I should study this for the test. HOMEWORK, & I haven't even started yet. Mind you, the test is on prefix, suffixes & combinations of the 2.

What do you guys think? Unheard of or just me  .

Wow!!! A test on the first day...I know I may sound like a geek...but I got excited when I read that....I love school....and can't wait to start...whenever I'm accepted....lol. Just try and study hard...when is your first day of class?

P.S. From what I've heard and read on this board..that's how you'll survive in nursing school....by "studying ahead"

We have been told that a drug math test will be given in the first week. I was surprised at first, but from what you all are saying, it seems pretty common.

Good luck to everyone!

Sounds like they do it to get a feel of where everybody stands and what areas need to be addressed and reinforced. I wouldn't panic over it, maybe it won't even count. Probably just a basic "eye opener", but don't stress over it. Flip through a couple of medical terminology books or find some sites on the web and familiarize yourself with the lingo. You may surprise yourself! Good luck!

Thanks for the info everyone. At least they give me a sheet to study from first. I guess I should feel lucky.

I hope all who start classes soon will post as to what your days are like. I feel we can ALL learn from eachother.

Best of luck to all

My first day is August 25th. Good luck to you too.

Don't let that critical thinking test discourage you. We had to take that also & we (those of us that survive & make it to the last semester) take it again to see how much we have improved. I remember everyone in my class wondering what the heck kind of test was that....hopefully in a year & a half we will have learned a lot & have a better understanding of it.

As far as the prefixes & suffixes test on the first day. I guess I lucked out with my program. We would take a quiz every other week on different words & however many we got right would be added to our latest test score. The quiz was worth a maximum of 3 pts. Make up some notecards & keep testing yourself.

I have been wondering if I should take a medical terminology class this semester before I apply to nursing school?

Would it be useful or do you pretty much pick it up along the way while in nursing school? Or would it be better to save the money on the class and just study it on my own? Its not required as a pre-req here.

It is possible to pick it up on your own. It is a part of most classes I have had. However if you have the opportunity to take the class, it can't hurt. It will probally even put you ahead of the game a little. The terms would be one less thing to study in an already very work heavy class!

If you ask me several schools seem to enjoy busting new students Chops!! I have had a exam every single day that Im in school. It doesnt make sense why you need to have a test every single day... But dont stress about it .. Just prepare yourself always be ready, because this school sounds like mines where there is always a test...
