taking books to class

Were you told at orientation which books to bring to class the first day? I wasn't, and I'm trying to figure out how many out of the 16 I should take. I'm thinking all I SHOULD really need for day 1 is the fundamentals of nursing book. What's your thoughts?

When all else fails, ask your nursing advisor or instructor.

We only needed a pen & notepad. Our upperclassmen (some of them) took great pleasure in convincing some of my classmates to bring all of their books. It was good-natured fun, but they felt a little silly shlepping all those books in.

One thing we did, that you may find useful... Once we knew where we were sitting & who we were sitting beside, we shared the load of the books. I brought some of the books & my partner brought some. It saved our backs!(I still kept all of my books that might be needed in my car, just in case.)

Like most everyone here, we did not need to bring our books to lecture. The only book that ever left my house was my clinical skills book (paperback, thank goodness!), which I took to Lab.

I had a syllubus so big I had to buy two binders to put it into!! That is what we covered the first day of class. If you are unsure though either call the school office and ask or throw all your books in the car and if you need one you can go to your car on a break and get it!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

I brought my books to class the first few classes until I realized that it was a complete waste of time unless I planned on studying after class. Otherwise I jsut brought a pen, notebook and outline with me. That is all I have ever needed this far.

I dunno. You might want to start taking your books to class the first week or so to see what's required. My Nutrition teacher always referred to places in the book, i.e. telling us to turn to page xxx and she would explain things to us. Better to be prepared.

Nursing school is not high school. You will not be reading from the text and the Instructor will probably consider the text as reference material. I would leave it home.

After the first day of A&P I, I didn't take my book. The teacher referred to it maybe three times the entire semester. I only used it to look up things on which I needed further clarification.

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

bo, all the best to you.

In my first semester one of my instructors went by the book, you could follow along and highlight the important stuff. The rest of my instructors throughout nursing school went by the powerpoints in the syllabus. After the first semester, I just took a notebook, my syllabus, and my tape recorder.
