Sitting in the front row

I hate sitting in the front row, but somehow I got stuck up there:banghead: I started out in the middle, which is where I like to sit, but then one day I showed up and a couple people were sitting in "my" seat. The only spots left were the very back, or the very front  I just can't really see the instructor, I have to turn sideways in my chair to feel like I'm participating. Plus I feel like there is resentment toward those sitting in the front row (silly I know) and I just don't want to be singled out at this point in the school year.

Am I just being paranoid, or do other's not like sitting in the front either? I just hate to make people mad, but I'm going to have to show up early and reclaim a middle seat. I know no one "owns" a seat, but you know how people can be about their "spot"

LOL...I hate being in the front row too...LOL

We don't sit like a normal classroom...we have our tables either in a circle or a U shape, so we're all facing each other...makes it much better!! Good luck reclaiming your seat!! Yes, I know how people can be about their seats...:p

I'm a "front row person". I hate sitting anywhere but up front. It is where the teacher can most easily remember me, I can focus the best (no seeing ppl play w/ their hair or pass notes or whatever). I never honestly thought I would be "resented" for wanting to be closer to the teacher, lol, but I dont suppose Id care even if I did think about it. I'm there to get my education and that means getting as much as humanly possible out of the classes I participate in AND pay for. I dont have all that time to care about not getting on someone else's nerves or being resented for trying hard. If they are that concerned with those kinds of details, I cant help but wonder how much better they'd do in class if they spent more time worrying about their education and less time worrying about the drama.

I will have a dang panic attack if I have to sit in the front row. In every class I sit in the very back and off to the right against the wall, that is where I am the most comfortable and can focus the best. I have an issue with people being behind me in general so for sure the front row is a no go!!

Go early and get your seat back! :D

That's how I feel about it in a nut shell. Are you there for the social aspect of school or to learn? I don't mean for it to sound harsh, but that is what you have to look at. If you want to get everything you can for what you are paying for, then don't worry about what others think of you. After all, you only have to deal with them for the short time you are in nursing school.:twocents:

I like to sit in the front or near the front just because it seems these days in classes, there are always students who want to chat and giggle during class. I sit there mainly to try to limit the distraction of the chatters.

And yes, people do think that they "own" a seat after occupying it for a couple days. People even show up an hour (or more!) early in order to "get" their front row seat. Whatever you do, don't be late. At our school, they lock the door! (for exams) If you are late, you automatically fail the exam!

Anytime I got to class a mere 10 minutes early, someone would steal "my" front-row seat. I don't know why we get so territorial about these things. Until people started failing out (thank God), our classes were all overbooked - we had something like 95 seats and 112 people first semester, and the fire marshal came through and said we weren't allowed to put chairs in the aisle. If you weren't significantly early to class, you had to sit on the floor. Gotta love state budget cuts, all those people who got a $12 property tax cut must be thrilled.

Lol I'm sorry and I don't mean to be rude, but this is so highschool. :uhoh3:

Seriously, here's my thought. There are no assigned seats...go get your seat back. Also, if you sit in the very front...yes, the professor remembers you..but that's not always good. I found the middle front worked the best for me.

Also, you are only singled out in the front if you keep interrupting the class for no good reason....

I'm not a "front row jockey", but in the center of in the front quarter. Up til this semester I was in a very, very small class (10 students in a 15X15 room with a teacher, desks, projectors ...) this semester I'm in an auditorium with 65 students and it SUCKS. Rude people talking (not whispering) during lecture, cramped seats, with the little fold out table ... man we had it good in that tiny little room. It just dawned on me, many of the "talkers" are class officers ... ain't that special.

At any rate, I made the decision Wednesday, I'm "Goin' to the front row" (old Bob Ueker Lite Beer commercial), hopefully it will cut down the distractions and I'll actually be able to get something from the course.

I always sit in the front row if I can. I am easily distracted, and prone to daydreaming. (ADD inattentive type) I found that my grades went up once I started sitting in the front.
