????Scholarship????

Hello everyone! I just have one question about a scholarship application I recently recieved.

It is from "The National Deans List" and a summary of it states:

Congratulations Jennifer. You have been selected for one of the highest academic honors that can be bestowed on college students. In order to recieve this honor and take advantage of all it offers, you need to send us your bio. info............

It continues to state that 50 $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. All I need to do is fill out a small biography and send it back b4 the due date.

I didn't send away for this one, and have never heard of it b4. Could I have just recieved it for making the Dean's list at my school? My questions are:

Is anyone familiar with this particular scholarship?

Has anyone ever recieved this scholarship b4?

Any info any of you could give me on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much as always.

Did you call them to ask questions?

No. There was no number, just an email address and the website stated the same thing the letter did. Usually if it sounds too good to be true than it usually is. Thats why I was wandering if anyone else is familiar with this one. I have sent for scholarships b4 and found out that they were just trying to get you to buy stuff or pay them money for applications. Every little bit helps thats why I try to fill out as many free aps as possible.

i am on the national dean's list too. i only sent in my bio information, not a picture. my understanding is, it is possible to recieve scholarship money, not that it is automatic. you can also purchase the "year book" with your picture and bio information in it, which i didn't.

Stephany,

Thanks for responding. That helps. I figured it wasn't gauranteed, but at least I know it's not bogus. Maybe we'll get some money lol.

This reminded me of something funny.....I keep getting these letters in the mail addresses "to the parents of" me. It says I am being named as some national high school honor student for my outstanding acedemic performance and can get scholarships, be in some book, etc......problem is.....

I am 31. :chuckle

If i were you I wouldn't reply

If its got no telephone # no address just a web site there has to be something fishy about the deal

Well just my 2 cents

Are you a member of Phi Theta Kappa or any other honor society. I am and I know they automatically nominate you for the national dean's list. Could be too your school could nominate you for making the deans list. I filled mine out and sent it in, I guess it's worth a shot at a 1000 bucks.

I'm a member of Phi Theta Kappa also. Being nominated is one of the membership 'perks'. Get listed if nothing else.....(it's free) The National Dean's List is a prestigious publication and you've worked hard, so you might as well be recognized for your efforts. I'm not buying the book, I'll just look myself up in the library ;)

If you happen to win a scholarship.....that makes it even better!! :)

When my school sends the notification to those on the honor roll, they send a letter explaining that they notify these types of organizations because listing in them may benefit the students. However, they do not recommend that we purchase the books, as that part is "vanity press." Being listed is good, and who knows? Someone has to win. Kind of like entering Publisher's Sweepstakes!

Hi when did you receive your letter because I received my letter yesterday 7/17/03 and like you I did not know what to make of it. Also I checked the email address and they listed all the schools which contained the book with people's name in it. in NY many schools had the book available including Cornell University so I figured how bogus can it be if Ivy League schools along with other institutions were part of it or recognized it. Congrats by the way.
