I had the chance to scrub in and observe in the OR today and it was GREAT!!!
I observed 2 Total Abdominal Hysterectomies! It was cool to see what the ovaries, cervix and uterus looks outside of the body, I got to deliver specimen to pathology along with the rotating nurse!
I haven't really decided what route to take when I graduate, I've been interested in wound cae, peds, OB and med surg.
But now I'm really interested in OR as a Circulating Nurse! I can definately see myself doing that in the future!

I loved it also. The Techs were the ones with "it" going on. Next to the doc they have the best job in the room, imo.

I just had my first clinical day in the OR...man was I lucky! Everyone was envious when I entered the lunchroom in the green OR scrubs and had to dash back out so I wouldn't miss the......*drumroll please* ...............C-SECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was bouncing off the walls with excitement because I want to go into labor and delivery so this was just AWESOME for me. My clinical group of 12 calls me their "Precious Tiffany" because I'm the youngest one in there (19). It was just wonderful, I almost started crying. It was a miracle and a defining point for me that that was where I am going to be someday.
I also got to see three colonoscopies and a hernia surgery! It was a wonderful first clinical day and OR experience!!!!!!!!

I'm actually looking forward to getting to the hospital settings. We're stuck in LTC until next semester so that's a good 8 weeks to go....I want to observe something different that I wouldn't get a chance to see everyday. I'm glad to hear you had an awesome day. It's a bit different from seeing the shows on Discovery health, right? LOL
It was a slow day for me. I saw a tumor removal, along with a colonoscopy and EGD. Nothing too big.

I had my OR experience 3 weeks ago. I got to see total knee and hip replacements, one abdominal hysterectomy and one lady partsl hysterectomy, a sigmoidectomy and tumor removal. I REALLY wanted to see heart surgery but I didn't get the chance. I start med-surg next week. Wish me luck!

I got chosen to do my final 180 hours of clinical time in the OR and I am loving it! Still going into ICU but OR nursing is fabulous!
