Nursing Pin for $115

Our nursing pin costs $115. This seems overpriced to me.

Typically, 70% of the student class opts out of purchasing it because of the cost. If you opt out of getting it, for the pinning ceremony, you get pinned with a fake cheap pin.

I'm on the fence as to whether to get it or not because while the $115 is a lot of money, the cheap pin seems kind of tacky to me.

What are your thoughts?

Is a nursing pin worth $115?

You only have one option? My program offers four pins. The designs are all the same, but one is gold, one is sterling silver, one is gold-plated, and the last is rhodium. The prices vary from $50-$135.

It's really up to you as to whether or not you think a nursing pin is worth $115. You would think, though, that if such a large portion the class opts out of buying one each pinning, the school would come up with another option.

It may not be worth $115 but 30 years from now you may wish you had one and it may be difficult to get one.

Good call.

That's what I was worried about...

I might just go for it!

Your school has it right. I wish they offered us the same design at different price points.

It makes no sense to having a pinning ceremony with pins a majority of the students can't afford.

I'm sure I'll get my nursing pin when I graduate, even if it's overpriced. I'm sentimental like that though. ;)

Congrats on being so close to being done!

we were given 8 options ranging from cheap of the cheap to 24k gold. I chose the sterling silver just cause I hate yellow gold with a passion.

Awww thanks! I'm excited to be finished soon! :)

Yeah, I'm probably going to get it. My mom has been a nurse for over 30 years and she still wears hers from time to time.

Up until recently, the nurse in our school lab always wore her pin on her lab coat. It fell off one day and was never to be found again. She is really sad about it.

I'm sentimental too. If anything, it can hang out next to my sorority pin in my jewelry box.

O, and before you know it, it will be December 2011 and you'll be finishing up too! :)

Eight options?! That's awesome!

We get two options: white gold or yellow gold. Both are $115. BOOOO!

I wish we had a sterling silver option. That's the one I'd pick too.

For what it is worth, I have managed to lose everything I ever had of this nature. But it is nice to have these keepsakes at least until one loses them!

yup, it's overpriced, but its a memorable item so I would definitely get it. It will be in my casket when I die. lol!!

Fortunately in my school the pin is included as part of tuition (I suppose because many were opting out, our ATI prep testing is also included).

I would get it, I like sentimental items, especially one that is symbolic of such a wonderful accomplishment. Congrats.

Though if I had a tendency to lose items like pins, I'd order a second if possible and store it for safekeeping. :)
