Nursing Pin for $115

Nursing Students General Students

Our nursing pin costs $115. This seems overpriced to me.

Typically, 70% of the student class opts out of purchasing it because of the cost. If you opt out of getting it, for the pinning ceremony, you get pinned with a fake cheap pin.

I'm on the fence as to whether to get it or not because while the $115 is a lot of money, the cheap pin seems kind of tacky to me.

What are your thoughts?

Is a nursing pin worth $115?

Yeah, that's cool to hear some nurses wear theirs.. I don't remember ever seeing nurses wearing pins, but then again I wasn't really looking for them, haha. Maybe now I'll notice more. BTW I just got the proof back from the pin company after submitting my design 2 days ago and it looks awesome! They made it look really nice and professional, I can't wait to get them. I love that it is something personal to our class :) Maybe I'll actually wear mine afterall.

Awesome news on your pins! :) That's seriously such a good idea.

Yeah, I never looked either (I'm usually too frantic at clinical to check out the RN's). I'm going to be on the look out now. I hope to spot some pins!

I never wore mine again after NS but then again I didn't like the style of the pin. It was in a harlequin diamond shape which had sharp points on the top and bottom. I couldn't pin it fast to my hospital ID badge either. So just never wore it again, but still glad I have it in my jewelery box. It's mine, I earned it. I am hoping that when I graduate this time with my BSN this school has a nicer pin and/or class ring.

congrats noyesno!:w00t:,

please! find a way to get your pin!!!!!!!! it's a hertiage / legacy thing. don't wear it. (at the risk of losing it or it getting broken).

:nurse: arrange your photo in a scrub with your stethoscope around your neck and your pin on.

:nurse: have your first license and /or your shool degree /diploma framed with your pin framed in there too.

trust me, in the coming years those 2 things will be invaluable to you and the legacy of your family. you will have regrets in years to come for not having it.

there are nurses who are regretting loss of their caps over the years. though outdated on nurse week celebrations there is a envy for nurses who kept theirs.

I'm sentimental also, but at our "pinning ceremony" there were too many of us for the Dean to actually "pin" us, so we were handed the boxed pin.

My boxed pin is still safe and secure in my jewelry box where it will remain for all time.

Put your money into something else that is worth it - like a quality stethoscope!!

I grieve the hurricane that destroyed my nurses cap and high school yearbook all at once. Some things just can't be replaced. A dirty limerick written by a guy you didn't like a whole lot looks far different 15 years down the road. I'd kill to read it right now... :(

This is the first time in months I've worn my class ring and my theater ring, so finding this thread seems fitting! I really didn't like my high school, but I love my ring as a symbol of who I was and what I did. My theater ring is more like a nursing pin or college ring however as I EARNED the right to have and wear it. Whenver I see people from my high school theater group they usually are wearing their rings and some of them are in their 40s or much older. This is a group that has continued far past high school and we are proud of our membership. This is how I feel I will view my nursing pin, even if my nursing school isnt amazing, I will be proud to be a nurse and ampartn of the legacy. I also view it as a connection to the history of nursing and to nurses that have gone before us. I guess I'm wry centimenal though! Congrats to everyone soon to join the ranks, hope to be there with you soon!!

I get the thought process of "what if in 30yrs i wish i had spent the money?" i've been a nurse going into 18yrs now. "back in the day" we all wore white uniforms white lab coats and our pin about 1yr after graduation colored scrubs and t-shoes are the thing - that pin has been a jewelry box about 17yrs now.

Since nursing no longer has a unifed source of identification (no white hats, no white uniform dresses etc), a pin may be the only remaining vestige of our traditions. While I do not wear my nursing school pin daily, it is a reminder to me of nursing background, traditions, and honor as an nurse. I hate to see anyone give up our nursing traditions. We need to continue to honor our nursing "ancestors", and the pin is one way we have to accomplish this. Also, considering the cost we have spent to attain a nursing degree, $115 is chump change.

Oh I treasure my nursing pin. I only wish I could have afforded a class ring from my college, but the nursing pin is so important. Don't miss out on it. You will treasure it one day as I do.

eh. I wouldn't pay that price. a pin is a pin, how is it going to change the fact I made it through nursing school? I know who I am, I know what I did, I don't need a pin to confirm me that. SELF VALIDATION YO.

I lost mine anyway.....
