No social life...can anyone else relate?

Help... kind of just a rant :( I'm a sophomore in a BSN program... I worked SO hard to get into the program, I was always always studying.(Cut off was 3.5 for the program) And now... it's worse. I'm constantly doing something for school. As a result, I've lost contact of all/most of my friends and I hardly do anything "fun"...ever. I almost feel guilty if I ever do anything. I feel so disconnected from the world. Whenever i try to make plans with friends, they're almost always "busy" or "broke" so... you guessed it, I'm stuck doing my school work. I hardly have any friends anymore, I have one or two and a long distance boyfriend.. and I'm lucky to see him once every month or two. I just feel like I'm going crazy and I'm wondering if anyone can relate? Have you ever felt so swallowed up in your school work that you have no time for anything else?

Uh huh. My social life took a back seat when I started school. i have different priorities since, like a bunch of us here, I have a hubby and kids. I lost a lot of friends when I started school because I'd rather spend time with my family then them on my few hours off from school. the only "fun" times I get is doing my SNA stuff!

I take two hours off from school stuff a week. They just so happen to coincide with sons of anarchy and walking dead. My girl and me curl up on the couch and watch, and when they are over it is back to the books.

I hear you! I'm in a long distance relationship too (S/O is in the Air Force) so school takes most of my time. I do like that it keeps me busy, but it is so hard to meet up with my other friends who still live near me. Part of it is they do not understand how much time this field of study can take up. I do sometimes wake up over whelmed with the amount of things I still need to do. If I make plans with someone, I feel guilty about losing out time on school and if I am busy in school I feel like I am blowing off my social life. What keeps me going: one day this will be worth it. I will be able to spend more time with friends & there will be life after I graduate, no matter how far off that seems.

I can most definitely relate! When I'm not at school I'm busy at home studying. I had prepared my husband before I started that nursing school was going to take over my life and I needed him to understand. He's been great he knows I'm usually busy on the weekends with what he refers to as "my nose in my book." I honestly can't remember the last time I really did something "fun" needless to say I'm looking for to Christmas break. As for family and friends they all understand I'm busy and if they really care about you they will understand. Just remind yourself at the end it'll all be worth it!

Yeah, I know how you feel. Sometimes school just consumes your life. But make sure to balance your time, don't be to stressed - it'll just lower your grades!

So true! That's what keeps me going... I tell myself every day that It will be worth it... and that I will have my whole life ahead of me when I'm finished.. plus I'll be living out my dream of being a Nurse. I guess I just get frustrated sometimes.. I mean like I said prenursing was hard, and I had to make sacrifices to make the grade to get into the program.. but now It's like NS takes up my entire life.

I've turned down so many invitations over the past few years that most of my friends don't even bother to invite me out anymore. :arghh:

And this is why my best friends are also nursing school students!

Meh. I didn't have a social life before I began nursing school so that's not such a big deal for me. Not being able to work more though, THAT has been hard!

And this! The further along we go the more phone numbers of fellow students I have. I have received (and hopefully given) a lot of support from and to my fellow students. We try to help each other and we have become a really tight group.
