Need all white shoes for clinicals.. Suggestions??

Hi!! I'm a new nursing student & have clinicals starting up soon. I need shoes but am unsure of what kind to get. I've seen the clogs. They look pretty pricey but have great reviews. I have rather thin ankles and am concerned if my foot will be loose in clogs & cause me trip or anything.

I've also seen some laced ones.. My classmates have mentioned if fluids spill on my shoes, it'll be a hassle to clean the laces.

I'd like to keep pricing as low as possible but at the same time I don't mind paying more for quality. I have scoliosis so I just want to have some good shoes that'll keep me from getting too much back pain.

What styles & brands have worked for you????

I've tried Danskos and they're heavy/feel hard under your feet... I guess it depends what type of support you like! I've also heard that nurse mates have comfortable shoes

I don't think danskos or clogs are worth it. They are clunky and my coworkers (and myself) have tripped in them.

I like regular athletic shoes, and it can be harder to keep clean but let's be real, those shoes should go anywhere but right into your doorway the second you get home. As a working RN I leave my 'work shoes' in the locker room so their nastiness never even leaves the floor.

Plus if you do clinicals once or twice a week, it's not really worth it to make a huge investment right now when your workplace after college could have a totally different dress code.

When I was in school we were required to wear ALL white shoes. I saw everything from the pricey Danskos to cheap Wal-Mart sneaks. We were allowed to have minimal navy or grey on our shoes but that was hard to find too.

I have wide feet so finding a non-orthopedic shoe was a challenge. Zappos has a great search tool to help you find a great shoe for school.

For me, it is all about the socks. I know you are probably supposed to wear something specific but if you can find a SwiftWick sock that meets that requirement, I strongly suggest great socks. For me, I can wear almost any decent shoe but if i wear these socks my feet and legs never hurt. Ever.

Personally, I wear a good Brooks running shoe and switch out with my Danskos. I think the Danskos help keep my back from getting sore but I do have to get new ones every 12-18 months.

I would advise you to get the best shoe you can afford that works for your foot. You can also go with a less expensive shoe and put in some good insoles. That may also help!

Good luck!

I have the Danskos. Our clinical days are 12 hours long and my feet and back are great after a long clinical day. I did retail and worked 12-14 hour days. I always wore sneakers and my back and feet would kill me after a long day. I couldn't take it after a while. I have loose ankles. The ligament in my left ankle is no good anymore and I just don't have time to get surgery to get it fixed so it gives out a lot. My ankles have given out in them and I have almost fallen but kept myself up. lol. It has happened twice so far. But they do it in any shoe. The Danskos have a back on them so they are not really considered "clog", clogs. I will take my ankle giving out once in a while over the fact they have saved my feet and back. I came home last night from a long clinical day and I didn't even think about pain in my feet or lower back. Totally worth the money.

I second (third) what the ops said about good socks with your good shoes. I like cushioned socks that are moisture wicking. I also wear nike elite socks and compression socks sometimes. Treat your feet right! Good shoes and socks are important! As my don at school said, "you only get one back and 1 set of feet."

Skechers non skid workshoes are a really good shoe for the price. They come in plain white or black.

I use Nike cheerleading shoes. They are white, all leather and have held up well for me being cleaned after clinical for 2 semesters (so far). They work for me but like others have said your best bet is to try some on and see what fits your foot type best.

LOL, this thread didn't disappoint! "Loved Shoe A", "nope, HATED Shoe A, but Shoe B is awesome!" "nope, hated Shoe B!" Same brand, loved and hated.

OP, did you go out and try some on for yourself to see what YOU like?
