For starters, I'm a newbie to the site so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I..am just at my wits end.

how do you all deal with obnoxious people at school!??!?!?!?!?! I'm so fed up. It's not my fault if I get the answers to the questions right and they don't. They act like it's my fault that they're stupid. Ugh...talk to me.

in the end you will probably have to ignore them and be on your own. I doubt they will get thru the entire program anyway.

Well for one you should leave the attitude you displayed right now at the door prior to going to class. Calling people stupid is unwarranted, especially your classmates. FWIW they got into the same program you are in so I don't think they are that "stupid".

Secondly, you shouldn't pay attention to negativity especially if they direct it towards you. Just focus on the reasons of why you are there and focus on becoming a good nurse for your future patients.

I agree with the PP. Also, as a nurse you may come into contact with co-workers that you may not always get along with. You might use this oppurtunity to learn how to work with those that you may not always see eye to eye.

Welcome to AN! The largest online nursing community!

Be prepared for some very honest feedback to your statement. The members here are very good at sage advice. But they also need to remember to be kind to each other.

I think that sometimes we need to look at ourselves to see if we are contributing to the situation. Sometimes in the midst of passion and excitement about what task is at hand...one can be perceived as a "know it all" and being over bearing. I am sure even you have been around people that in their effort to be the best... they are overbearing and are perceived as being rude, selfish and mean.

They act like it's my fault that they're stupid
Perceiving your peers as "stupid" (if this post is sincere) is probably not the best way to endear yourself to your classmates.

I am willing to bet that your classmates aren't "stupid" (they did get into the same program that you did) but are seldom given the opportunity to speak up or ask questions in your eager pursuit of your nursing career.

Here are my suggestions. Take a moment and take a hard look in the mirror. What can YOU improve on to foster a better relationship with your peers. How can you HELP others by sharing (in a therapeutic productive manner) what you have learned so far...share tips tricks and study habits....start a study group.

Well said esme12! I do apologize if my post came across harsh, not my intention....

Good day, jasonsgirl4eves:

Your fellow classmates are not stupid. Nursing requires a thick skin. Smile, be kind, be honest, be gentle, and smile some more.

Thank you.

No it wasn't but I like to remind everyone that we want to be supportive in a positive way.

Woah, woah. Like chill. We aren't even in the program yet! Um, I'm pretty sure I've looked in the mirror today...that doesn't even apply here. They're just mad that whenever somebody can't answer the question, I have the answer. I'm not trying to be a showoff or anything...I'm just completely confused at their hatred of me. Its like this group of drama mamas up near the back. I can hear them being stupid throughout the whole class...

and You're quite welcome pmabraham! :)

What exactly are they doing that makes you believe they legitimately hate you? Are they pushing you around? Calling you names? Yelling at you? Spreading rumors about you? Keying your car?

....Or are they just ignoring you because you seem to have a really big attitude problem? Take a big bite of humble pie, lose the 'tude, and like chill.

Curious...how old are you? I'm going to suggest growing up and maturing a little. You have some soul searching to do.

You've got some people "being stupid throughout the whole class". I'm not sure what you mean by this. If they are people who are not paying attention or putting forth effort to learn, well, it's entirely possible you won't see them in a nursing program. Let them be "stupid" and focus on yourself.

When someone suggested you "look in the mirror", they were suggesting that you take an honest look at yourself and be open to the possibility that you may rub others the wrong way. Sometimes, the negative thoughts, that we think are secure inside our brains, are actually felt by others. We don't mean to betray this, but it oozes out in our tone or behavior. We don't always realize we do this.

How do you know they hate you? Did they tell you that?

You probably felt some dislike... the same way they may be feeling some dislike from you.

It's hard to be smart sometimes (so I am told) but it shouldn't be hard to be patient with others not as smart as you. Let it go. Be the bigger person. Maybe... just maybe even hold off answering long enough to give someone else a chance.

But, by golly, if you know it, you know it and if they can't put more effort into the class to know a few things themselves, that's on them. Not your problem.

It's nice to make friends in school, but not everyone is going to like you. Working on how you interact and present yourself can help. However, in the long run, you are there to learn and that should be your primary concern.

Sounds like there is a lot of growing up that needs to be done on all sides.
