Hey everyone I'm currently in the process of converting my youngest child's room into my home office/study place for me and me only. The baby is bunking in his two big brothers room :) they love sharing a room! The space is quite small so I don't have a ton of room but I feel it is enough room. I was just wondering what your study space set up is like an what are your must haves and must nots? Also pics would be great too!

You're so lucky to have your own study room! Our bedroom is my study space lol. U found this super nice desk with all these shelves(haven't bought it yet-Walmart) for cheap. I usually study on my bed....however, since I'm all comfy under the covers sitting up, reading books...I want to nap lol so a desk is what I'm getting! And a nice office chair. I want an inspirational sign to hang above the desk too :)

No way can I study near a bed it just screams "come lay under the covers & take a nap!!!" I also can not study in the living room or kitchen or I will have kids climbing up in my lap. My boys room is tight quarters now but they will survive until we can get a bigger place (we rent right now but are planning to start building in a year.) So moving the baby's bed was our only option if I wanted to get any studying done.

My study space is a smallish room just for me and my things. Im super lucky to have the space which comes in handy at night when the kids are in bed but there is no door so I get little done during the days and weekend... which really stinks because im not an all nighter study person. It works well enough. I have my computer on a desk an extra laptop that goes back and forth with me and an extra table for extra work.

My must list included pretty decor for my own personal amusement. I repainted good will furniture and got some kitch decor and its my own space.... I keep all my knitting and scrapbooking supplies that I have no time for anymore in there. But it makes me happy to look at.

In regard to building in a year- Don't do it! I come from a family of builders, and trying to do a project like that WHILE you are in nursing school will be a train wreck. No matter how smart or talented you are. No matter how strong your marriage is. If you are participating in the project, even in decision-making, it will eat up your precious study time and cause even more strain on your marriage than nursing school already will.

I just recently moved into a smaller apartment. In our old apartment we had 2 bedrooms. The smaller bedroom was my office and our "put everything in there" room. It was never clean or organized, but my office table was. I enjoyed it, because whenever I study I need complete silence and no distractions.

Now we live in a waaaay smaller apartment and have only one bedroom. We managed to find a spot for my office table: next to our bed :D I don't know yet how this will work out, because I tend to study many hours at once and am up till very late, but I know it won't bother my husband, he can fall asleep easily. But I like to be by myself when I study, but I guess I could go to the living room then. I am just concerned about the tv noice! In worst case, I could go to the library at my school and get a study room.

My table is set up pretty good. I have not yet organized it, because I just moved and I don't know what I have to buy for my new nursing school yet, but I do have a lamp on it. On the wall I have a 4 month calendar (perfect, since I can look at the whole semester). My table is attached to a book case (got it from IKEA) and I love it, because I can have all my nursing books right next to me. On top of the book case I have my printer. I am planning to buy a comfier chair. I also would like to put some other things on it, like candles or something.

We moved from California to Texas 6yrs ago & built a house. We up graded our furniture so our old bedroom set went to a guest room for family!! Well they visited the first year then complained about how hot it is, how cold it is. So I told my husband I'm getting rid of the guest bed, guest dresser, guest tv, guest everything. So I made it a family study room. We all go there to study!! I have 3 boys 8th, 5th & 3rd grade. They love when we have study time cuz I'm in there with my stuff too. Their a Lil older so they only go in there after school for homework.

With the money I made from all the guest room stuff on Craigslist lol I went to ikea & bought a shelf with baskets for it. I bought wall shelves. A big colorful desk & 3 chairs. I already had a laptop desk & chair so that's my spot. I bought a chalk board, a white board, a peg board, a stapler, tape dispenser, a cool wall sharpener & a shredder, cool hooks for backpacks lol everything really. I even had money left over!! It seems like i spent a lot but I really didn't. I even bought 3 paint colors each of my kids picked out. I was kind of scared of the colors but it came out alright.

I love it!!! I get to spend time with the kids, so they don't get tooo left out cuz I'm so busy but I also get my own quiet room when their done with homework. It's a STUDY room what kid in those age ranges want to spend any more time in thete then they have to lol!!

I'm lucky I had the room. When I lived in my apt. In Cali I studied in my bed & did more sleeping then studying.

I guess now my guest can complain about sleeping in my colorful study on a air mattress when & if they ever come to very HOT Texas. (exaggeration)

I made my "sensory deprivation tank" before school started and so far it's working well (would work better if I could find a way to turn off the internet in here to prevent distraction). I keep it clean and sporifice so I don't get tempted to start cleaning and I have a lock on the door--this is the most important part! Because there will be times when your husband comes in looking bored and just wants to chat or when your kids are having a fight and that lock will save your study session ;) Mind is just a desk, a printer and computer, a good task lamp, speakers and radio and a bookshelf. The less fancy it is, the less to distract me.

Great idea! Getting a desk and putting it in a room with a door that locks saved me last semester. I do share the room with my boyfriend's three year old son but we only have him twice a week and he doesn't mind sharing with me when he is here.

I have a big, solid desk with a lamp (I use the daylight mimicking bulbs because the soft light or yellow lights drive me nuts). My bookshelves are close as well. All of my study things, printer, paper, etc. are organized around the desk. The desk serves for anything important like bill pay, filling out paperwork, budgeting, and so on, but since I handle all of those things for us, no one encroaches on my territory. My boyfriend knows to keep his cute butt out of there when the door is closed, although he will come rescue me from myself if hours go by, lol.

Just keep it clean, comfortable, and organized so your brain will associate the study room with organization and compartmentalization. Get colors on the wall that don't make you feel trapped or unhappy. Use lighting that doesn't hurt your eyes or your mind. Let daylight in if there is any to be had.

My fiancé and I are trying to figure out where to put my study space. We have a 3 bedroom house and an almost 2 year old. The third bedroom is "his" office and he despises me going in there for ANYTHING... Not exaggerating. He wants to put my study space in our daughters room so I can "watch her while I study" YEAH RIGHT. Since our bedroom is the largest I'm thinking of putting a small desk and bookshelf for me in there to use. The only furniture in there now is the bed and tv!

OMG lol You need to get one of those pretty ornamental "dividers", set it up in his office and move his stuff to one half of the room and take the other half!

Lol he's really territorial. I think I'll me a small space in the bedroom for my stuff.
