Has anyone received a rejection letter?

Hi All,

My School doesn't send out acceptance and rejection letters until late April /early May - so I'm among the many here still waiting to hear something.

Also like many of you - the school I've applied to has a huge number of applicants (think it's 500 this year) and they only admit approx. 50 - really bad odds that is.

I was wondering if anyone has received a rejection letter this year or in previous years and if you just kept applying until you got in or got discouraged? I've been planning my return to school for 20 years - finally applied this year for the Fall. We take the NET/TEAS in March - they total all our points for everything we've submitted and the test scores and take the top 50 from that.

This is my first shot at this so I have no idea what to expect as far as acceptance or rejection - but I know for anyone it would be a huge disappointment if you don't get in. Just wondering what everyones experience has been with this. Thanks, SusanNC

We receive our rejection/acceptance letters about the same time you do around mid-April. I have applied to four different schools and it doesn't look good so far. Three out of the four colleges are on points or GPA consideration and one of the community colleges I applied to does the lottery. The lottery will be next Thursday but I have no hope getting in because there were over 900 applicants and they are only taking 90 with 50 on the wait list. One of the BSN programs I have applied to had over 800 applicants, with 45 positions and there is still a week to go before it closes.

April seems tooooo far away right now.... :o

Hi Jill,

Exactly how does the lottery work? Do they just draw names out of a hat and not consider grades, etc. Just curious. Susan

I'm one of the lucky ones who got in on my first try, but I do remember going to our open day back in August and the Nursing lecturer there was truly inspirational on this subject.

She basically said that if you want to be a nurse badly enough, there is ALWAYS a way....whether it be enrolling in a course with a lesser requirement (eg: biology or some other science) and working your butt off in that, getting great grades and then applying to transfer. Or going to TAFE (I think that's technical school over there) to become an enrolled nurse (probably the same as your nurses assistants), and then applying after you are done. I wish it were her typing her little speech here and not me...she was so much more inspirational than me!

But her point was the it's the drive to achieve your goals that will get you there in the end. If you've wanted this for 20 years you HAVE the drive!! Don't stop till you get there IMHO!!

BTW, our uni had over 1000 applicants for nursing, but only 100 places. I'm interested to hear how this lottery works -- here it's decided on your university entrance score...they just keep bumping the minimum score requirement up until they get down to the number of places they have to fill.

hey guys, best to all of you. I too am from NC--but decided to go to a private school in VA--because it is BSN and got in with my first try--for me, I am 36 and just want to be done in two years without the wait. But, I know it can be very frustrating. Good luck to all of you/hty.

Susan...

The lottery works just like it does for money. Everyone is assigned a 3 digit number and it goes into a hat. They will call off 90 numbers and those are the people in the program. At long as your GPA is above a 2.5, everyone is equal. I've heard that this is the last year they are doing the lottery because they had so many people drop out last year that it has caused a problem. It just isn't fair for the people who worked their tail off to get into the program but because the nursing department choose the "C" student's number in the the lottery, the "A" student doesn't get in.

Wow Jill,

You're right, the lottery system doesn't sound fair at all. With a hit or miss system like that, really isn't much of an incentive to give it your all. Glad to hear it's the last time your school will do that. Take Care, Susan

I got my first rejection letter last year, in the summer of all times! Talk about making someone sweat and wait. It was really cruel, and by that late date, too late to make other plans. So I just went with what they told me - to accept admission into the General Studies, then TRY to transfer later. Well, I applied this semester to several schools, but not the one I'm at.

And the lottery system? I think it's terrible that some of us bust our humps and get great grades in our pre-req's, only to find out all it does is give us a great GPA, but doesn't do squat to get us into nursing school.

Yup,

I got rejected 2 years ago......Not enough pre-reqs completed. I now am in an awesome program and am thrilled!!! I look back now, and while I was so discouraged and bummed at the time this has definitely worked out for the best. ;)

I just got a reject letter over the weekend. My school is also VERY competitive, so no surprise there, but still a letdown. I'm getting ready to take the PSB test for LPN now, and will try ASN again later. DON'T GIVE UP! Good luck.
