Had Orientation

Nursing Students General Students

Well I spent the last 2 days attending orientation. I feel like my head will explode already, but it was fun. We got to meet a lot of our instructors, most of whom seemed really great & supportive.

We had a lecture on drug calculations & medical terminology. We have to get thru 3 chapters each before school starts & will have exams on both the first week of school. I was shocked that I actually really got the drug calc part & even enjoyed it (I'm not really a math person).

Found out our uniforms are gonna be all white (yuck). But we don't have clinicals in the hosp until November, so first term I'll only have to wear the uniform 4 times.

Book prices were outrageous! Our required books were $675! But we will use some of them for all 4 terms so I guess I'll get to spend less on books later. But still, geesh!

First terms I've got 4 classes :Clinical, Health Assesment,Nursing techniques, & Pharmacology/Nutrition. We don't register for classes until Aug 17th. Hopefullly I'll get the schedule I want. If I do then I'll be there 3 days from 9-12, one day from 7-2. One weird thing is all our tests & exams are given together & outside of class time. We have to be at school every friday from 8am-12pm for exams. So no one has classes on friday, but we could have up to 4 tests on friday! Yikes!

All in all I felt really good about how things went. It was a little scary :chair: but a lot of fun too. So I'm really excited. But boy oh boy is it going to be a lot of work. That's ok though, I'm ready for the challenge :D

Sorry this was so long, but hey, I'm excited.

My orientation is the week of Aug 16th. I HATE NOT KNOWING ANYTHING! Classes starts the following week.

Specializes in OB, House Sup, ER, Med Surg.

Our orientation is Aug 23, and classes start Aug 24---I also hate now knowing anything. I am getting so anxious to start. I feel like our entire family life is in limbo right now.

We just had our orientation yesterday. It was exciting to finally be there. The instructor made an assignment already but guess what? The bookstore STILL doesn't have our books!!! We can't very well read a book that we don't have though, now can we? He promised us he'd have the books on Monday though and classes don't start until the 17th. Anyway, our uniforms are white shirts, white pants, and navy blue lab coats. I'm excited about getting started. I've gone through so many emotions over this throughout the summer!lol...I went from being purely excited about it at the beginning of summer to nervousness and being nauseated over it to completely dreading it and thinking of dropping out. Then when I went to orientation yesterday, I just got excited all over again. And quite honestly, I'm still nervous but not nearly as much as I was before so I think that once classes start, I'll be able to calm down and just get down to the business of learning. Anyway, good luck to you!

I had orientation back in May! School starts on Aug 16th. i already got he syllabus which has our reading assignments. Unfortunetley, they were still using the old books and the page numbers our off in our new books so I am not quite sure what I am suppose to be reading. They aslo gave us 48 pages of Med Terms and suggested we study them! Our uniforms are white pants, white shirts and white lab coats! I have such bad luck with white. You will be able to see whatever I have eaten for the day! But I am still excited!!!

I know what you mean. We have had a homework assignment since the beginning of July, and I was barely able to purchase my books today(school starts Wednesday!) Those college bookstore ppl are absolutely heartless, I tell ya.:p

i have orientation next week...for 3 days and I can't wait. I hate not knowing anything about school...i'm so anxious. I wanted to see how much our books will be but guess what...the nursing school hasn't even turned in a list to the bookstore...won't until tomorrow. We are expected to buy books and things during orientation but we won't be able to charge against our loans or grants until the 18th, the day classes start. It kinda stresses me out. But I guess it'll work out anyway. Good luck yall!

Alison,

Congratulations on getting through orientation!!! It's so information packed and you do feel like your head is going to explode...lol...but we'll all be okay.

Wow, I'm so excited for everyone! :roll We start the 24th, and the bookstore just now ordered our books. :angryfire I HATE being unprepared. Our uniforms are khaki pants (elastic waist - yuck!) with hunter green tops, and white lab coats. I like the colors.

I cannot believe how long they make some of you wait for orientation. Yikes.....cutting it close.....

Although I will be a senior nursing student this fall, we still have an orientation at the beginning of every semester. I just got a letter in the mail the other day that my orientation will be from 3:00pm until 10:00pm. Thats just crazy! Some people have class at 8:00am the next morning.
