Fundamentals/basic nursing practicum 1

I take it basic nursing practicum 1 is my school's version of fundamentals? It'll be one of my first classes if I do get accepted for this fall.

Would anyone be willing to tell me what all is taught during this class? I am seeing posts about it being very hard and it's scaring me silly! I would really appreciate any info and it would possibly help me breathe a little easier!

phooey! Its sounds like fundamentals of nursing with clinical. easy peasy lemon squeezy. Just dont OVERthink stuff and you'll be fine!

I am not sure what it is, but recommend checking out your schools 'description' of the course to see what all it entails.

My fundamentals class was pretty easy from the get go, but as we progressed, the material got harder.

It's not that hard of a class. It covers fun stuff like ADPIE (aka the nursing process), Maslow, triage, ADL skills (also covered in lab), nursing diagnosis, vitals (also covered in lab), basic nutrition, therapeutic communication, post and pre op care, safety, delegation and leadership, the use of proper body mechanics, the history of nursing, legal issues related to nursing, advance directives, ect. There is of course more, but that will give you a good idea of what the class is about.

Enjoy it! I thought 1st med-surg rotation was scary until I went on, it definately gets more challenging as you go so enjoy it in the beginning when its nice and easy :)

Our Fundamentals wasn't hard..the hard part was learning to think like a nurse and not some random Joe Schmoe!

Ours were broken up into 2 classes. One covered the nursing process, ethics, grieving process, cultural, Maslow, history of nursing, legal, etc.

The other course was our clinical course and we learned basics and some more involved processes regarding the body, as well as body mechanics, therapeutic communication, ADLs, vitals, etc. We went into the hospital and interviewed patients and did vitals and care such as bedpans, bathing, making beds...

Wow! Your fundamentals class was way diff then mine! We were giving meds and shots! Doing IVs as well!

I've been using Saunders NCLEX and also Reviews and Rationales study guide to give me an overview of the course :) since I'm starting my classes in the fall too!!
