Final Grade Error!

Is it possibly that you were given the wrong scale? Where I go an 82 is a B- An A or A+ would be 96-100. Makes me think there was a typo on the scale. 90-95 would be an A and so on. Seems like a lot of leeway for the A, A+. If you notice all of the others only have 10 points in between letter grades.

Glad to hear that it worked out for you! Usually schools have a period of time (a year) where you can appeal a grade. I have worked in the Natural Science department of my community college and there are occasions where a grade change has occurred.

I don't know about others, but I feel that with a grading scale such as the one listed kind of lessens the value of an A. I know that the nursing school I'll be going to have an opposite type of scale with an A from 92 - 100, a B being ~85/86 to 91 and a C being 75+. JMHO.

why do you feel that way? things are different for different schools. especially when we are in 2 different countries! the curriculum is different, and so the grading should be as well.

i'm getting very offended that people keep saying things like that. I dont choose the grading scales for schools, I just accept it as is. In my entire education, an A has always been 80%+. Why would that change in post secondary ed?

Many of you are starting to make me feel like crap because "at my school your grade would equal a C". I worked my tail off this semester and I EARNED my A-'s. Please stop comparing our grading scales!!!

I'm sorry that this post is not in my usual tone, but i'm really tired of this and i'm hurt that anyone would purposely make me feel like s%*# because they dont like my schools grading scale. I need to walk away from this post now.

FutureNurse2005 - You are very right in feeling offended. It seemed to me that quite few people were so caught up with the grading scale that they totally bypassed your problem. I hope everything works out right for you. You deserve to be given the grade that you earned.

Sorry you feel offended. I don't see anything wrong with the grading scale, and it seems perfectly obvious to me that the curriculum and grading more than likely compensate for a scale with wider ranges.

For example, the fact that your tests are only out of 25 points.....YIKES! Doesn't leave much room for error!

Hopefully things get worked out with the instructor. That is so darn frustrating!

You have every right to be offended. People should keep quiet about how much "harder" the grading scale is at their school, blah, blah, blah.

I went to two different Community Colleges for A&P I&II with identical grading scales. I got an EASY A in A&P I, breezed, through, didn't work that hard and didn't feel I learned that much. I took A&P II at new CC with a recommended good Professor. I got a B+, but worked my tale off. I am more proud of my B+ than my A. Obviously, you cannot judge the difficulty of a class by a grading system. It is all relative. OP did not deserve to be criticized for her "easy" grading system, but given the advice she was asking for.

Stepping off soapbox now.

I'm sorry people are feeling so touchy about this. I didn't mean to lessen the feelings of anyone. I just made a comment about the grading scale, not about the person's situation. Maybe it is the fault of the schools, because they are the ones that promote all of the competition between students. I apologize if I offended your hard efforts.

wouldnt you be slightly "touchy" if some people (from another country where things are different!) were telling you that you didnt earn your A's? And that "if you were at my school, you would have gotten a C". No matter how tough of a cookie I am, when it comes to my grades, yes I am touchy. Especially when I worked so hard to EARN my grades.

But the fact is, I asked for support about the grade mix-up, not to be put down in regards to my grading scale. My post was not about the grading scale at all. Its one thing to comment on how our scales are different, but its quite another to comment that the value of an A is lessened by someone elses grading scale.

Actually I think we're used to it. As an American I am constantly told by people from other countries that we get off easy from the cradle on... we're told we don't have nearly as much homework, don't learn nearly as much, that not as much is required of us, and that we're woefully uneducated due to all of the above when compared with those from other industrialized nations. I had to learn a long time ago to just shrug my shoulders and let it roll off. Of course there are a multitude of other things I'm still touchy about that I'm still in the process of learning to let "roll off". You can find some of them on other threads :chuckle

Since you've deleted your original problem and most of your posts I guess I don't need to apologize for not staying on topic :chuckle but just wanted to assure you that you are by far not the only one accused of having it easy. In fact I was sure we owned that problem!
