Nursing Students General Students

How many of you are there? What's next for you? I've just registered for classes. We only have one set of clinicals in the first semester. It's adult care 1. Other than that we have assessment and fundamentals. I need to get my physical and get tested to see if I still have immunity from previous vaccines. If not, I get to be a pin cushion for a little while :) Other than that, I have to figure out how I'm going to pay for school now that I'm taking on twice the tuition bill transferring to a university. I'm applying to two hospitals to see if I can get in their scholarship and service programs. This is a super busy month!

I am getting the last of my immunizations today and I HIGHLY recommend to you all to get the HEP B shots. Expensive (3x $71 for me) but since I saw the HUGE bolded section on the clinical orientation form basically telling me to sign here if I decline but you are stupid if you do, it was probably a good idea to get them.

August 27th, FINALLY starting clinicals...let the games begin!

My school doesn't even allow us the option of declining. Well, we can get a notarized official letter stating we decline vaccines for personal or religious reasons. But, our instructors made it pretty clear that most of our clinical sites require them in order to do your rotation, and if you can't attend due to refusing vaccines then you fail the clinical rotation. Failing a clinic rotation = failing out of the class. So basically, declining vaccines = automatic failure.

Why would a student nurse or nurse even decline immunizations? Doesn't make sense to me. Someone clue me in so I know.

I start NPC's ADN program with boot camp on August 23! I'm very excited about starting nursing school, although ask me two months from now and I may feel differently ;)

Specializes in Med/ Surg/ Telemetry, Public Health.

Congrats to all who have been accepted for the Fall 2012 nursing programs. We all have worked so very hard with prereqs to get

to this point, so I wish everyone good luck in their nursing school journey. I was accepted, and have already registered for

classes that start August 22. I am counting down the weeks/days. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I wake up in the

middle of the night and think nursing school one month away and mentally freak out. Anyway LOVE, PEACE, and NURSING SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Specializes in Geriatric and Mental Heath.

I had to fight tooth and nail with my school to prove that I was allergic to the tetorifice vaccine. Ugh. That was a pain in the butt. Glad I was able to get that squared away.

I don't mind getting shots, I just wish I wasn't so sensitive.

I feel the same way! When I got my letter back in April, August seemed so far away! Now, it's about a month away, and I'm starting to get nervous. I have all my shots, physical, registration etc done. Just need my uniforms and nursing kit. It's getting expensive!

I got accepted into my nursing program on Friday! I was so happy. Its a great feeling. Now I start school on November 5th so I have some time to prepare and research what to expect. Its an accelerated BSN so I know its going to be a 12 month marathon and I am fully expecting that.

I have read over and over and over about how nursing school is so expensive. I assumed people were talking about the tuition and all that and I admit, I kinda rolled my eyes.

Now I'm adding up my doc visit co-pays, uniform costs, stethoscope, CPR certification, etc, etc and holy cow, I get it now. :twocents: These pennies add up quick!

Specializes in NICU.

Sept 10th is my start day.

Specializes in MICU, CVICU.

I have orientation on July 25th and classes start August 15th. I am super excited!

I just got the call that though I was #15 on the wait list, I got in!! I've got my uniforms ordered and my physical scheduled. I still have to take my dosage calc test & medical terminology test. I have to buy my books & equipment. & take CPR. I may puke. I really hope this non-nursing shortage doesn't keep me from getting a job. I am in the process of a divorce & my daughter turns 2 this August. I need this.
