Encouraging Words For Begining Nursing Students

During study group today one of my friends was having a moment. We were doing dosage calculations and she kept saying,"I don't think I'm going to pass this exam." We all stopped what we were doing to help her out until she felt comfortable with the problems. After we were done we all came up with one phrase we would tell eachother when we have a moment like that,(which I know it will happen).

Mine is.....Failure is not an option.

Her's was....Why sleep in when you can study!! :zzzzz (which I thought was funny because I love to sleep in.)

My other two friends came up with

Just Do It and Let's Rock this Joint!!

Anyone else have encouraging words when you or someone else feels stressed or when a situation seems hopeless?:)

A good friend of mine from this board told me just the other day:

"nothing to it, but to do it".

That just about sums it up. We just have to do it. PERIOD.

I try to remember that the human brain is capable of learning just about anything. I visual those little neural pathways in my head - I think of them as dirt pathways all grown over with weeds and grass. Everytime I go over a concept AGAIN, I think myself beating down the weeds in my brain and clearing that pathway. Everytime I walk that pathway, I get quicker and quicker!

I really think it helps to tell yourself that YOUR brain is capable of learning vast quantities of stuff...that YOU are capable, and that it's just a matter of time and practice before it "clicks".

On those days where you're really convinced that it's not just sticking in your brain, go over some old material or flashcards. You'll be amazed at how much you DO remember. Then remind yourself that all of these new facts will become just as easy as that if you work a little each day.

Oh and when the going gets REALLY tough, remember that one day

YOU ARE GOING TO BE A NURSE!

My dear old Dad's favorite mantra: Attitude is everything. Tenacity pays off. :)

Specializes in orthopaedics, perioperative.

Mine is "sh*t happens... now let's go clean it up". Cuz it happens all the time. Once ya start to expect it, ya can plan for it and it doesn't seem so big. ^_^

Jill1215, I love the pic!!!! What film is it from? I wanna rent it! :p

I don't have a motto. But after just completing the first week of my nursing program:chair:  I think my new theme song is gonna be that old song "One day at a time sweet Jesus, ..:chuckle :uhoh21:

Melanie...you have a quote in your sig. line that is a great one for motivation!

Starting from our very first semester it is tradition that all of us stand in a circle and pray before a test. We have a lady in our class that is really great at prayer and after we pray we all have goosebumps and feel ready for the exam. Before the instructors come in to hand us our exam we all look at each other and say "Let's Rock". We are a very close class and all get along great. Everyone is so supportive, I don't know what I'd do without my classmates.

Ah Jen2...I would love to find a bunch of people that would like to do that before tests or any big event. It would be great! You are very lucky.
