Test 1: 55% (20% of grade)

Test 2: 66% (25% of grade)

Test 3: 80% (20% of grade)

Final (35% of grade)

I'm gonna need a 100 to pass class on the final and that is impossible.

My Nursing program required a 79% in order to pass, plus had hands on tests in our lab each semester (auto fail the class if you fail the lab test which had random scenarios and it was considered a fail if you made 2 errors or 1 potentially fatal/major error). Our teachers told us that basically every program in the country used the same grading scale now... guess they were wrong hehe.

But you didn't mean it in a bad way....

The first question was an honest curiosity. I did not know the grading scale went that low for other programs. To tell you the truth it's a bit shocking.

However my point stands. We are holding peoples lives in our hands. There isn't much room for error. We are the last line of defense of safety for the patient. All nursing programs should be held at the same standards and they should be high.

I'm not rude I'm blunt. Sorry for that.

Ours is basically the same only we have to have an 80% and one error in a hands on lab exam is an auto fail. You have to redo the lab exam till you get it right but the first grade is your final grade.

Wow at this whole thread..

My program requires a 77 to pass. I'm also in the part of the country with some of the best nursing and medical schools there are. It's also home to the top pediatric hospital in the US and some of the best trauma centers in the country. Does that mean our programs are equal because I can get three points less than you but my program and local hospitals are held to a higher standard and expect more from us? I'm not rude I'm blunt.

You can't judge programs against each other like that it makes no sense and you sound conceited. Every program is rigorous in its own way and anyone who graduates and passes the NCLEX should be proud. I'm not going to feel less adequate because your precious program requires three more points than mine.

I believe the standards are high for all programs. I also believe that when any of us get out of school, we have a textbook knowledge that will allow us to pass the NCLEX. After that, from what I've been told, we get our first job and the real learning begins.

Everyone on this forum is working towards the same goal. Perhaps we should support the learning environment and each other, but that's just my two cents. I hope you succeed in your classes given the tight standard, but I also hope that you have respect for those nurses who attended different programs.

I didn't mean to start an argument over this. You're both right about the NCLEXs. I wasn't factoring that in. I asked a question and was patronized for it indirectly so of course I'm going to boast about my school and get defensive. I'm human. I'm also proud of my school and I still believe people holding life in their hands should be held to a high standard. I don't understand why someone wouldn't think the same but it doesn't matter. The argument stops here. We're all right and no one is wrong. It's just a difference of opinion. Which we're all allowed to have.

We really need to get back on topic.

I think everything that can be said has been said. OP didn't do as well as she hoped she would. That is sad.

I honestly think it would more beneficial for you to retake the class. Not only are you not passing, you are outright not grasping the material, judging from the first two tests. You want to be a safe nurse, correct?

It's rough, and I feel your pain, but you and your future patients will be so much better off!
