Did everyone have a 4.0?

Hi everyone,

I have been on this site for a while and see that many people had a perfect 4.0 going into nursing school and its making me nervous because I am suppose to start in Aug. and dont have a 4.0 (its a 3.7). Does this mean that I wont do well in nursing school? Is there anyone out there that has done well in nursing school with a gpa lower than a 4.0?

Thanks for your replies

Britt, everything is relative. 4.0 in what? Quantum physics or Algebra? You need to get over it. 4.0 gpa's look good on paper. When you're on the floor and make a mistake, no one cares if you had a 4.0. Yes Britt, most people in nursing who do well never had a 4.0. Your dreams aren't shattered because of your 3.7. Get over it. You're going to learn a new way of thinking and being prom queen or whatever else won't mean squat. Go watch 'Gladiator' (the scene when Russell Crowe dispatches 6 guys and yells to the crowd, "Are you not entertained?!") if you need some motivation.

Thanks everyone :) Rachel 1986 I don't go out partying EVER. I have 2 kids under the age of 2 and a husband at home so my social life is slim. I know that this is something that I really want and WILL fight for.

No, I wish I had a 4.0. I went in with a preq gpa of 3.4. And yes you can make it in nursing school without a 4.0 gpa, I am finishing up second semester and about to go into third in two weeks.

I had a 3.9 in prereqs when I got accepted, but my overall GPA was 3.2, due to classes from another BA degree. There are all kind of reasons you can have less than a 4.0, and quite often, it has nothing to do with how well the nursing program will go for you.

In the end, if you put in the hard work and time, things will go splendidly. :) The goal is to graduate! haha.

Practically no one gets a 4.0 or maintains it throughout the program I'm in and at the end of the day, most employers are interested in your work experience (CNA jobs, internships, volunteer work) and your passed NCLEX and license, not your transcript.

Don't worry. Your GPA in prereqs is, in no way, an indicator of how you will do.

I am one of those 4.0 students. Well, after 2 semesters of nursing school, I'm thrilled with my 3.62 that I'm going to come out with. I could care less what my GPA is now. I just needed it high to get into the program. Now, I'm more worried about keeping my head above water, retaining the info, and connecting with my patients in clinicals (my favorite part).

I entered my BSN program with a 3.25 GPA. I am about to finish my 3rd (of 5) semesters of nursing classes. I made an A in Intro to Nursing, an A in Health Assessment, an A in Nursing Statistics, an A in Patho, an A in Pharm, and a B in Basic Nursing. For this semester, I currently have an A in Mental Health, an A in Nursing Research, and an A in Med-Surg I. Final grades are not officially out for this semester yet, but I am confident those grades will hold. So, no I did not have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs, but I am putting my all into developing my critical thinking skills and learning to "think like a nurse"... and I am doing very well. Some of those who got into the program with a 4.0 in pre-reqs are not doing near as well as I am! (Not all, but some.) Some people do obtain a 4.0 in pre-reqs and then go on to become great nurses, no doubt. But you don't need a perfect 4.0 to excel in nursing school or to someday become a great nurse. I am passionate and excited about nursing. I am dedicated to being a life-long learner of nursing. Best of luck to everyone!
