Hello, fellow December 2005 graduates! I was just wondering if everybody has found a job yet and/or decided what area you want to work in. I graduate December 16 at 10am and I can't wait!! I have accepted a position in the PICU which is where I am precepting. How about you guys?

Brina

Specializes in Trauma ICU, MICU/SICU.

Hi Brina,

Great thread!!!

I accepted a position in the NICU. However, I'm having second thoughts and am pretty sure I'm going to stay on Transitional Trauma where I am currently a tech. I love it here and would like to have some nursing experience before going into a critical care area.

Good luck in PICU!!!

I graduate Dec. 10. I have my job lined up in post-partum. I'm so excited! I'm supposed to get a call from HR this week to get all the paperwork started. I still can't believe that graduation is finally here and I am actually going to be an RN!

Megan

yuppers- will be staying on the cardiac step-down unit where i am currently teching-it : P

but to be honest, i am having second thoughts about it and wondering if i should have explored my options a little more. i haven't come across anything that i think is better, but still wonder if i made the right choice. at least i'll be in a familiar environment as a new grad i guess.

I have a job on the antepartum unit where I work as a tech. I can't wait to be done with school!

Specializes in ED.

I don't have a job yet :o , but I do have some interviews lined up. I guess it's okay though, we can't work without a license here so I have to wait for the red tape anyway or I could take a job in PA or NY. Although I'm not 100 percent sure where I want to work yet, I know that I want to work in pediatrics or the ED. So I guess whichever hospital I like the best that offers me a position in one of those areas will be the winner :)

Specializes in ICU, Research, Corrections.

Yep, on a transplant unit which was exactly what I wanted to do! I would say about 75% of the people in my class already have jobs too. Finals on Thursday, YAHOO

Specializes in Gerontology.

All you guys jobs so really interesting, I am graduating 12/11/05 and I have a job on the med/surg unit I just started basic but maybe in a year or two I will progress to critical care because that was my first choice but the Institution I am starting with prefers new grads. to start on med/surg and I wanted the to work at that particular Institution more than anything the HR guy told me since I got the job to just transfer in a year to the ICU-medical.

I graduate December 9th... I do not have a job yet... the hospital where I work said that all the Externs would be given a job .. they just didn't know where...

I talked to my director in Oncology... (not really where I want to work) and that is what she told me... I hear others in my class getting jobs already... Im kinda stressed because, I'm a good student.. a very hard worker, dependable... likeable.. and yet... even though my applications are in... nothing yet... we will see

I would love to work in ICU or CCU.. or even in Trauma.. but nothing yet. I do not like the hospital that I am precepting at.. although feeling excited about graduation.. feeling very down about a job right now.

I graduate Dec 10 and I haven't even applied yet! I thought that doing so would be 'putting the cart before the horse' so to speak. I still have to graduate - which barring some horrible accident - will definitely happen and I haven't passed the NCLEX. How can a hospital hire you without a license?

Just wondering and waiting 'til I have a RN license in hand...

It is common practice here in Arizona to start as a new grad and orientate without having your RN yet - as long as you are done with school. They just pay about 4 bucks less until you have your RN. You work with a preceptor until then. If you want a certain hospital or specialty go ahead and apply now :)

Thanks so much for the info! Going to apply today!
