I'm 37 and am only about half way through my prereqs. I don't think age is an issue; it's experience. At least I hope that's true! My goal is to get my RN and work in a NICU. Luckily, I have no children, and can hopefully get my ADN a the local college and then transfer to get my BSN.

    Good luck to you!

It seems that alot of people are doing nursing for a second career. Just curious. How old is everyone? Who has kids? Is it a mixed group in the professional part of the nursing program (I am still doing pre-reqs)? Where are you living and what school do you plan on going to. BSN or ADN? What area of nursing do you want to go into?

I am 32, will be 33 in August. I am married with 3 kids. I live in Phoenix and will be going to Arizona State University for my BSN. I am doing the BSN rather than the ADN because I would like to be a CNM. Although I am also interested in ICU too.

I am 32 yrs old and have 3 children ages 11, 6, and 3. The school i attend definitely has a big variety of students ranging from your traditional right out of high school "kids" to some very non-traditional students as well. The school I attend right now only offers the associate degree but I plan to get my BSN eventually as well and possibly even my MSN at some point. As far as what area of nursing I want to go into, that would be OB or Pediatrics and eventually NICU.

I am 33 years old and have one 12 year old daughter that I homeschool. She will be thirteen in two weeks. She thinks the few strands of gray actually look cool.

I'm 27 years old, marreied but no children yet though we reallly want some!!!! I'm doing this as a 2nd option i guess. I didn't consider myself as having a career yet because I've been going to school and working but yes I guess it is. I have been working in the filed of human resources for several years and going to school for psychology. I have a BA in Psych and then decidd to go for my MS in psych. I only need to do my thesis and its done. But I went into nurse school. I figure I can finish my thesis after I have a good paying career. I can work wild funky shifts as a nurse too, so that is a plus!!!!

The program I am in is a diploma program and it is geared towards older individuals and non traditionals because it is a night weekend program. there is a day program too for more traditional students.

In my class we have 11 and all of us are over the age of 26. It is a great group of people. We are supposed to get 4 more for next semester and hopefully they will all be older than 26 also, we all seem to ge along.

Don't get me wrong, I love younger people too, but it is easier for me to get along with those older than I am, it alwasy has been taht way for me. I'm 27.

Hello all..I turn 46 this month and am currently going towards my ASN in nursing here in North Florida..in the process of completing my prereques..this is a 2nd career for me as well ..I am excited and nervous at the same time..
How are older grads accepted on the floor?? I will be around 48 when it's all said and done.. You always hear about nurses eating their young..hehe....<kidding> they'll have a hard time with this 46 yr old babe...hahaha good grief...I need a glass of wine..to much A & P floating around in my head...LOL
Hi; The patients will love you, and you will feel great when you tell them your age and they say "nawwwwwww", you look like you are 25! As for the nurses, I felt no bad vibes at all. I actually get along with the youngin's better!

I am 40 years old and have 2 children one almost 14 and the other 21 months. I decided to go back to school after 9/11 and finish my pre req's ( I had 4 to take) and have a child with my husband ( my first child is with my first husband) I decided life was too short and I needed to do something that I wanted to do but was afraid of failure. I finished my first year of nursing school and am set to graduate next may. There are only two people in my class older than me. ( we started with 27 and are now down to 15) So I hope that I have the stamina for next year it has been tough but I think being older has given me an edge to the discipline of studying. I am interested in going into Labor & Delivery at this time.

I am 32, married with a blended family of 5 children: 15, 12, 9, 9, 3. The youngest is a boy. I live in NC for now (military family). I'm starting my 4th semester of an ADN program in August. I'm not really sure what area I want to go into, but I really liked my L&D rotation.

Hi, I'm 28, married, have 4 boys ages 10, twins 8 and a 18 month old. I live in KY and am going for my ADN at a local CC with a possible transfer to Western KY University for my BSN if ADN turns out to be just as long. (Waiting lists, ya know?) I'm starting my pre-req's this fall while going at night full-time. I'd like to go into L&D or NICU, but I will probably change my mind once I get into the program more, who knows. I've been a stay at home mom for about 2 years, before that I was a medical assistant and med. secretary. I can't wait to get started towards my new career. Good luck to everyone here. I'm glad I found this site!

I'm 29 will be 30 in August. I start RN program in August too. I'm divorced with a 3yo little girl. Thankfully my parents have been fantastic about helping me out. They are letting us live with them until I finish school. I would not have made it without their help.
