Curious. How many "older" students

It seems that alot of people are doing nursing for a second career. Just curious. How old is everyone? Who has kids? Is it a mixed group in the professional part of the nursing program (I am still doing pre-reqs)? Where are you living and what school do you plan on going to. BSN or ADN? What area of nursing do you want to go into?

I am 32, will be 33 in August. I am married with 3 kids. I live in Phoenix and will be going to Arizona State University for my BSN. I am doing the BSN rather than the ADN because I would like to be a CNM. Although I am also interested in ICU too.

Hello, I am 30 and have just been accepted into a program. I have a nine year old son and husband of 11.5 years:)

Specializes in LTC/Behavioral/ Hospice.

I'm 33. (will be 34 the month classes start). I have 4 children and have been married for almost 13 years! :)

I'm 34 and have 3 kids. I've been doing the stay at home mom thing for 14 years. But I have wanted to be a nurse for about 8 of those years. I didn't get the opportunity, until my divorce. Now it is just as much a need as a want. I have been going at this part time now for 3 years. I begin the nursing program this fall. I can't believe I'm finally here. It has been a long, hard road but there is now a light at the end of the tunnel.:)

Hi I am 33 in july and a mum of 4 (9, 7, 6, 4) lovely children and am in my first year of my BN.

Specializes in ER, ICU, Cardiac, Med-Surg.

When I registered for classes earlier this month, I saw my fellow classmates. At 35 I was probably right at the median point for age. My school accepts 6 students right out of high school and the rest (around 60) are generally ones who have attended college, changing careers, etc.

My mom was in nursing school at the same age I am...never thought I would be sooo much like her!

I have an 11 y/o daughter, 13 y/o son, and a 37 y/o husband. I recently switched to a part time job, but still I'll have my hands full. Glad to see so much great company here on this board. :)

Hi,

I am 28, married with 2 kids, 10 & 3...I live in Orlando FL and am currently attending Valencia Community College. I have been working on my prereqs for the last 2 semesters. I am currently applying to Deaconess College of Nursing's Online ADN with PN component. I am planning to start this Fall 2004.

My goal is to pursue my BSN as soon as I finish my ADN. I am also considering joining the Navy as an officer. I have not decided what nursing specialty I am most interested in, but I am leaning towards ICU or Critical Care.

Hi Cheri...

I grew up in Orlando and am also 28. I dont live there anymore but was wondering does Valencia not have a nursing program?

I'm 30 with 2 kids (3 & 5), and just finished my third year in a BSN program. When I graduate next spring, I'll have been on the 13 yr plan.....pretty sad...

Hey, what's so sad about it? You're graduating and

that's what counts. It just takes some of us longer

to get there.
