Has anyone else starting nursing school at the age of 45 or so? My youngest will be a senior in high school next year and my other two in college. I have waited a long time to go back to school. I wanted to know if others have gone back in mid life.

I take the NCLEX-RN tomorrow. I'm 55.

I start my clinicals in January. I'm 55, will be 57 when I graduate.

Thank you, I was wondering if there were other mid life adults going to nurisng program. I have some prerequisites to take before I can apply but it won't be long.

Thanks again

I'm hoping desperately that I get in next fall. I will be 52 then--almost 54 when I graduate. Do I wish I had done it earlier? Yes. Is my age going to stop me? Nope.

Good luck to one and all of us.

I'm 47 and just finishing up my first semester of NS. I'll be almost 49 when I graduate. When I was wondering if I was too old to do this, my husband (an RN) told me: "Your going to be 49 anyway, you might as well be a 49 y/o nurse."

Specializes in CDI Supervisor; Formerly NICU.

Good luck tomorrow!:yeah:

:up:I'm in my mid 40's too! best decade so far. It can only get better, it's been great so far.

I've got two more years to go, graduating in Dec. 10. I've got post grad plans for another master's, and eventually hope to go for a doctorate.

Learning is not tied to age :)

you can DO it!!!!!!

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

I started at 48; I'll graduate in May at 51.

That is FANTASTIC!!:yeah:

And I'm 37, not 45 like you asked, but if you want it - GO FOR IT!! I was suprised at registration at the amount of NOT young students there were. GL!:nurse:

Our class started out with over 150 students. Average age is around 35! The director commented at orientation that they are watching our class closely as the average age is higher than for any previous class. I don't know if this is a national trend or unique to our area. My school is in New Orleans and this could indicate a second career choice due to loss of industry after K______, (I'm so sick of the K-word I don't even want to type it!) Makes for a very "adult" learning environment and lots of diverse life experiences being brought into the classroom and discussions.

I just turned 42 a week ago. I'm in my first semester of nursing school. Graduation is May 2010. Go for it! A lot of the students in our class are my age and older. Good luck!
