Anyone a member of NSNA (natl student nurse assoc)?

Yes Jennifer, I not only belong as a member, I'm an officer of our executive board. It is absolutely worth supporting, not only with your dollars, but with your time and talents. Our local chapter works in the community to advance the profession of nursing by lending our time and talent to events such as Race for the Cure, childhood screening for amblyoplia, recruiting new nursing students from local high schools, etc. It's a great way to have fun with your fellow classmates and grow as professionals.

I am a member, our school adds the cost in to the tuition charge and we are all members. I have not done a lot with it as of yet but I just started in Jan. I read the magazines and emails they send and am aware of the good they do within the nursing community. Definately a good start!

I'm not yet a member but I will definitely be joining soon after the fall semester starts. I've heard lots of good things about the organization and our school really encourages everyone to participate.

I am a member. During first semester the fee ($75) was added into our skills lab kit (total =$150). The NSNA does many wonderful things. However, I would have liked to make the choice of becoming a member on my own. The school I attend won an award at last conference for having the highest percentage of students in the program being members. Geez...big surprise!

The school pays almost 100% of the cost to send a select few to the conventions, while on the other hand it pays 0% for our graduation ceremony. I'm not trying to bash NSNA, it has very important role in the nursing profession. I'm not actively involved, but I do communicate with one of the elected officals. I share many ideas and alot of news articles that I find on this board. I have tried several times to get involved in an outreach program in the schools in my area, but nobody really seems to know who, how, when and where?

It's just hard to respect my schools participation with this organization when it's forced on us and the few that had a free ticket to the convention come back talking about how much they drank and partied. Especially when topics of graduation, NCLEX pass rates (ours isn't great), and out reach programs aren't getting adequate attention.

This is just my opinion about my schools participation. I am not in anyway trying to discredit the NSNA. I encourage everyone to become members.

thanks for posting this. i too would like some information about it. i will have the option to join when classes begin in a few weeks.

i am curious if anyone here is a member of nsna or has heard anything about it? it's about $30 annually to be a member (depending on your location). i'm thinking about signing up, but would like to hear some input. here's their website: http://www.nsna.org/ thanks!

This years convention is in Daytona Beach this November. I go to school there, so I definitely want to attend. Thanks for the input everyone, I am going to join. :)

At my CC we will be asked to pay $65 for a 2 yr. membership due mid semester....I can't wait!!! I've heard wonderful things about this association, they also offer lots of scholarships.

I am a member and I think it's important to support it. It's great to be active in the community and it also looks great on a resume. Also they offer scholarships.

i totally agree. the practice of deducting money without regard to choice is not a good idea.

I also am very interested in the NSNA. However, I don't believe the program even has a local chapter on campus! What would I get out of it if then? I don't want to pay money for something like that if they don't have one. But that may change after the semster starts...

I am a member (by choice) and will also be attending the convention in Daytona Beach...I hope I will learn more about the organization at the convention. I know they offer scholarships so that is one benefit specific to students.
