Hi,

I'm trying to set out my fall semester and need some help. Would you be comfortable taking A&P 2 and Micro (both 4 credit courses with labs) during the same semester? I'll also be taking Hx of World Civ 2 and American Lit 1 at the same time. My nursing classes will not begin until January of 2005.

Thanks for any advice.

If you have the time to study, it shouldn't present a problem for you. I took even a heavier load with all of my science classes and no problem............ :p

Not no, but hell no! Don't kill yourself with so much stuff, if it's not necessary this semester. You cannot focus enough time on A&P, if you are spread so thin...just my opinion...I aced A&P I and II, as well as Microbiology, and would not suggest "skimping" on either subject. Science subjects take a lot of time and attention, and will serve you well in days to come, especially if you get an understanding of them...later...

My advice would be no if you can help it. What you described is a heavy duty schedule and the science classes with labs are killers and require intensive study time.

Good luck.

it's possible if you manage your time well. i took a&p I and micro at the same time and in my opinion a&p 2 goes along better with micro. i took those two classes while working full time and aced them both, though i don't know if it was worth it - i was constantly sick with all the stress.

About 80-90 percent of the students at my school who take both courses fail at least one of them. However, most of those people either have kids, have to work or both. I did it and did well, but I didn't have kids and didn't have to work.

A lot of it also depends on whether your nursing program counts GPA and also counts W's against you for acceptance criteria. If they do, I'd be careful not to get overloaded and have it adversely affect my GPA, or have to take a W that could also hurt your chances.

The bottom line is: Micro and A & P is a ton of work, even without the other courses you mentioned, so you should plan accordingly.

:p

Does your school offer summer intersessions? If it does I'd knock out one or two this summer. Or see if you can clep the soft courses or take them correspondence. I think the load you are considering is a suicide load. I think the A&P and Micro could be done together but don't throw in the other touchy feely writing intensive classes with them if you are wanting good grades in all. Something will suffer, probably you.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I;m going to take A&P 2 this summer and Micro in the Fall. As the Mom of the beautiful boys, I don't want to be stressed beyond my normal baseline!:p

I have A&P 2 and Micro this semester, and I'm finding it to be do-able. But since you can split them up, it's probably a good idea to do so. It's a lot of studying.

I think that its a better idea doing them seperatly. I am taking only Micro right now and its tough enough. I would rather do each class seperate and get in A in each than together and get C's. That said their are people who do it all the time and do ok, just depends. I am a mom of twin 6 year old boys so they keep me VERY busy.

I'm doing this in the fall, but without the labs. My choice is do it this way or shove one of them in with nursing classes, and I don't want to do that! I am only taking 12 total hours and not working. I will have mornings and all day Friday to study (probably still won't be enough, I can see some miserable weekends in there too before tests). The other two classes are Psych Across the Lifespan - should be easy if I get a good Prof (I've heard tales that the bad ones make this difficult) and Nutrition, which is supposed to be easier than A&P and Micro (sure hope so...).

It's never going to be a free ride, I guess. I'm just taking Chem now (working full time) and starting to realize that this is probably as easy as it will get. I haven't found Chem hard at all, but I am putting about 4 hours in each week studying/homework and double that before tests. Multiply that times 4 and I say Yikes!!!! Plus I have this sneaking suspicion that A&P will take many many hours. I already have the coloring books and the flashcards and I'm thinking...gee, this and a textbook and homework too....hmmmm.
