**darby1** Where Are You, Please?
Thanks for trying to get in touch. I haven't heard anything yet, and I'm hoping it's because our board of nursing was off the job, from Friday of last week (my test date) until Wednesday of this week. I have a friend who took his NCLEX last Thursday, and got the good news today that he had passed. I took my test on Friday, and I still have a dim hope of good news possibly next week. Our Board of Nursing (NC) only updates information on Tuesdays and Fridays, so I am not sure of my results as of today. It has been a very trying, stressfull week, to say the least. I do come here often, just to read the posts, and gain some encouragement. I know that everyone will say, "Oh, I'm sure you did just fine!", but that is of little relief to a person who is beat up...I will keep my chin up, and take the test again if necessary. Thank you all for your great encouragement, well wishes, and especially for your prayers. I will touch base later, and let you guys know what my results are. I'm sure I will be ashamed if I failed, but I will recover... Once again, I'm not an overly religious person, but I do believe that my plight is still intact, and that God is still on the throne...right on... Thanks girls (and guys) for the great fellowship here. I do appreciate you all; much.... Darby

Well, I took my NCLEX...
Dear Betty, It's not confidence at all...It's just the feeling that I will be OK regardless of the outcome. In fact, I'm feeling pretty anxious as I await my resluts, but if I "bump my head", I will recover and move forward. Thanks for responding to this post, and try to remain assured that you have a great chance of passing. I wish you well...Darby

question about NCLEX
Yes, you can take as many breaks as you need, but they all count against your time. There are two scheduled breaks. The first is at 2 and 1/2 hours, and another at 3 and 1/2, I think. This information is available through your testing site, so just ask before entering the test room. You will just have to raise your hand, and they will let you out of the room. You will be finger printed every time you enter and leave the testing area, which is no big deal. I admire you for being able to continue your schooling while dealing with your pregnancy. We had three women who had children during my time in nursing school, and they all did just fine, and you will too. Just try to eat a decent breakfast on the morning of the test, and get settled down mentally before sitting for your test. It's just another test... Unlike a 5th semester final exam, you will have another chance to take this test, if things don't work out the first time. I'm waiting for my results, and I'm not sure how well I did on my NCLEX. If you believe in prayer, it sure seems to help calm my anxieties before a test. One way or another, God will see you through...Take care, and good luck on your test, your pregnancy, and your future in general. Be cool...Darby

Taking NCLEX (July 2nd) I desire your prayers...
I need some positive vibes and certainly many prayers tomorrow. I have been reading all you guy's posts recently, and I too feel very overwhelmed, to say the least. I will just go and do my best, and hopefully I will make it through another test. Thank you all for the support you have given me in the past, and for the great fellowship and encouragement on this site. There are many good people here, and I do appreciate you all. I'll get back to you guys in a few days. Keep me in your prayers..."To God be The Glory, Great things He hath done..."

Is taking basic Biology & Chemistry together a bad choice?
I think that you can pull this off, but it will not be as easy as some people say it will be. You already have a science background, so you will be re-learning a lot of this stuff, therefore you have a definite advantage. There were only two A's in my A&P I class, and I got one of them...It was not easy...I got the only A in A&P II, and it drained me almost completely. I took these courses before nursing courses, or I would have surely made a lesser grade. To combine another major science course will require additional time and lab preparation, and these factors should be considered. I fail to believe that these courses come that easily to some of these people who boast about "easy money"...They apparently didn't have my instructors... Good luck, and get in touch if I can be of any help...Peace...

Balancing chemical equations?
I haven't used the first Chemistry equation in nursing school, and I just graduated. In fact, I haven't used that stupid azz "mole crap" since I left that stupid course :rotfl: . The most valuable stuff you should gather will be basic symbols for the most common electrolytes such as Calcium (Ca), Sodium (Na), Potassium(K), etc. This will help you to recognize what your text book is talking about, and will serve you well throughout school. I still have a "periodic chart of the elements" posted on my wall beside my desk for reference. Chemistry was a aggravating class, in my opinion, but I aced it just like my other science courses. I just could not see "my harvest" for all my hard work. Chemistry sux...IMHO...LOL.

Math Placement Exam
I brushed up on my decimals, fractions, and percentages before taking the placement test at my community college a few years ago, and I'm not sure if it helped me or hurt me more. I had wished several times that I had taken the general math "refresher" course while struggling through Algebra. If you had time, I would reccomend just "winging it" and just take the test at face value without studying. That way you would really assess what you remember about math operations. You may have to spend your first semester taking remedial math, but you would be well prepared for college algebra the next semester. I jumped straight into Algebra, and had to fight it all the way! I made an "A" in that class, but wanted to throw that dern Algebra book through the wall many times! If you had someone to tutor you during Algebra, you could probably just start there, but a refresher course in general math would be so helpful if you have time. I'm an older student also and my first semester back to college had me taking Algebra and Anatomy and Physiology 1 together! Man, I was racking my brain for sure! Also, if you get that Algebra behind you it will help you with Chemistry (another hassle!). I think the best thing to remember from your remedial math courses would be how to "solve for X". I use cross multiplication all the time to do dosage calculations, and still seems to be the most simple way, at least for me. It works every time, and is easy to set up and remember. I haven't used any "Algebra" since I finished that class two years ago, nor have I used any Chemistry. It seems like a lot of extra stress just to get some of those prerequisites behind you, but it's required in most programs. Good luck, and let us know if we can be of any further help. Be cool, Darby.
