Wrong reasons

Not long ago, there was an ad running on t.v. around here for an LPN program. It opened with a woman in a business suit saying to a woman in scrubs, "Wow, you lok comfortable!" and the woman in scrubs went on to explain that she's an LPN. The ad went on to explicitly give wearing comfy scrubs to work every day as a good reason to be an LPN! Another ad that was on recently showed a woman giving another woman a list of reasons why she became a medical assistant. All good reasons, until she got to, "And that's how I met Dr. Brown!" (Or whatever name they used.) In other words, "Become a medical assistant and hook up with a doctor!"

Everytime I tell someone I am going to college to become a nurse they always ask me, "Ooooh so you can meet a DR to marry?" Um yeah, let me tell you that's it! I'm going through 4 years of college so I can fall in love with a doctor! Not because I want a JOB and I really want to be a nurse or anything, that would be SILLY right?

Haha I love the scrubs ad. I can't believe they would actually use that in an ad! Are they that desperate? They might as well write, "Become a nurse, wear comfortable, cute, scrubs!" and then the fine print at the bottom should say, "WARNING: Scrubs may be subjected to blood, vomit, urine, and other bodily fluids! They will most definitely not be the same color at the end of the shift that they were in the beginning! The doctors you are trying to attract might not think it is that attractive!"

You should fire off an e-mail about those ads to The Center for Nursing Advocacy. Just google it. It's an organization that actively works to improve the view of nurses in the media.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!! It doesnn't improve the view of all nurses.

Becoming a nurse to wear scrubs is like becoming a teacher to be off in the summer!

I know people that did this, so they could teach rock climbing and kayaking in the summertime.

thats why I had considered being a teacher....;)

I'm seriously of the opinion that teachers do more paperwork than nurses do. There's no amount of money that could induce me to be a teacher, summers off or not.

I have worn scrubs daily until I got this job as an APN. Now...I have to wear business casual and a knee-length lab coat. The lab coat is kinda cool because its got big pockets to put all my reference stuff, PDA, phone, two pagers (I'm super important - lol) and stethoscope.

However, I go shopping for clothes and I have to look at what is machine wash and easy to care for and looks decent! I would love to be back wearing scrubs.

I went to nursing school because I wanted a cool stethascope cover and get to wear it around my neck all day/night. AND THEN... I found out that I also get to fill my pockets with all kinds of really cool stuff like little scissors, tape of all kinds, little personal packets of alcohol, 2x2's, pens, LOTS and LOTS of papers to write numbers on, etc... It's cool!

OH! And I get to meet new people EVERYDAY!
