Would you please recommend some states with better job market?

I graduated last Summer from an ADN program in North NJ. Due to family reasons, I have been looking for a job on and off, no offer yet.

I'm getting a little panic, since the longer I cannot find a nursing job, the more chances I'd lose all my educations in school, which I worked hard and got As in most of my nursing classes and graduated with honor.

I have been concentrating on looking for a position in long-term care and nursing homes. My instructor told me North NJ/NYC area and California are among the hardest place to find a RN job for new graduates. She suggested me looking somewhere else.

At this moment I'm willing to move. Any suggestions on which states I should apply RN license through endorsement? I'm thinking about PA, NY, so I can visit my friends in NJ if I need to. Any other suggestions on which states have more open job market? I will apply license for these states. I have good support from my parents so cost of endorsements is not a problem for me. Thanks

I have heard Houston,TX is one of the easiest places to get a job. I would imagine the south west would have more jobs available. Eastern PA (philly), NJ and NYC in my experience the job market is very bad. I currently live in this area and it is very difficult to find a job. It it is very competitive. Have you considered going back and getting a BSN. Many hospitals in NJ, PA and NYC are not hiring associates degree nurses. I am graduating this May with a BSN and have been told by many recruiters that ADN need not apply. Some hospitals are even laying off nurses and not hiring anyone.

No, I do not have any plans to go back to school in the forseeable future.

Houston is a big city, heard job market at big cities are not very good though. But I'll trying to apply for a Texas license, heard overall job market at Texas is good.

Ideally I would like some place close to NJ, I have lived here for many years, and would like something closeby.

From what i see,south jersey has a better job market than north jersey. go to indeed.com and for are put philadelphia pa. oh,u cant believe everything u hear b/c i went to nc thinking they had a shortage and they don't;actually,it was harder getting a job in Nc than NNj. It seems they would rather hire the locals first.

You should try Tulsa, OK. Great job market here. In our new grad residency program, we have new grads from all over. I just moved here from Atlanta, and there are others from California, Portland (Oregon), and Michigan, as well as other places. They are saying that they've never seen people from other areas like they are now. Most don't even know about the problem new grads are having getting jobs in other areas of the country, it's crazy!! Pay is actually pretty good for the cost of living. Right around $20 an hour, plus $4 differentials for eve/nights, and $2 for weekends. Weekend option is an extra $9 an hour. Plus, they give tuition reimbursement, $5000 for adn, $7000 for bsn (this is after taxes), and $2000 relocation. Check it out! Tulsa is pretty small, but it's really nice!! I actually really like it, and wasn't expecting to! PM me for more info if you'd like it.

Look up hospitals in Syracuse, NY. Lots of RN jobs in this area. One hospital in particular hires new grads. Community General. NJ, is not that far from Central NY. Good luck! Hope this helps.

Howdy neighbor!

I'm also a recent Tulsa transplant and am surprisingly enjoying it a lot! I got a great job at a hospital fairly easily as a CNA, and I'm confident that if there are openings when I get done with school in 2 years (OU-Tulsa aBSN, hopefully!), I'll have a "garaunteed" job - since I will technically owe them 2 years of work in exchange for the awesome tuition reimbursement program. And we have LOTS of RN openings right now, so I think I'm in a pretty good place, I'll likely be able to come in as a new grad and interview for several different departments, and already know my coworkers and manager from my experience now.

OP: Tulsa's actually fun - there's something for everyone. Great outdoor activities, pubs, ballet, etc. And rent is cheeeeap!
