Just curious, does working Mon thru Fri make you feel less of a nurse?I work in a rehab center with e/o weekend. My coworkers say they would feel like they weren't a nurse if they worked those hours. What do you think??

Lessee now, I haven't worked weekends (or bedside) for a long time, still pulling in a paycheck, yep...still a nurse. Your friends are full of (it).

What I do, when I do it and where I do it is not what makes me a nurse. Passing the NCLEX and maintaining my license is what makes me a nurse.
Some nurses would kill for your schedule. I say enjoy it.

I wish I had the chance to still work three days a week and not have to work weekends but I think it is up to the person and how you feel but a nursing job is a nursing job despite your hours.

Sounds like your co-workers must be fun to work with, what other kinds of goofy comments do they make?? :) I have never known any profession to be defined by the hours or tour you work while doing it. I agree with previous posters, sounds like they are jealous.

I worked M-F, 8-5 (while still on-call 24/7/365) for years, and believe me, it's NOT all it's cracked up to be. That schedule just about did me in, yet I kept going back for it time and time again. Now I'm back to working shifts and I'm OK with it. Of course, weekends don't mean much anymore since it's just my retired husband and me at home....we can make a weekend out of anything.

I don't feel like less of a nurse but I DO feel like MORE of a human being.

I didn't go in to nursing to work 9-5 M-F, but to each her own. I love having my workweek compressed to fewer days and I love the huge differential I get for working the weekend program. My schedule isn't what makes me a nurse, it's just what makes me a happy nurse :)
